Role Summary

Reliability is at the core of Electric Adventure Vehicles. As a Reliability Data Scientist, you will play a key role in using data to improve the field safety and reliability performance of Rivian products.

Responsibilities

  • Join a team developing the next generation of battery cells for Rivian!
  • Build and deploy a battery data analytics platform with state-of-the art machine learning models to discover and validate new materials, cell designs, processes, and usage patterns
  • Derive insights from R&D and manufacturing data pipelines with terabytes of data as well as inputs from physics-based models
  • Develop data processing, management and visualization tools to support laboratory experimentation and cell manufacturing
  • Collaborate with equipment engineers, lab managers, data engineers and others on various teams from Manufacturing, Digital Manufacturing, Automation Controls, IT, MES, and Operations to deliver optimum solutions
  • Be a key stakeholder in decision making for developing scalable data analytic solutions from R&D level through mass production scale-up
  • Work with external vendors and internal teams to deliver software, enabling process development and manufacturing
  • Drive system integration, metric development, ad-hoc analytics, and product traceability efforts

Qualifications

  • Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar technical field. Deep background in machine learning methods or similar technical skillsets that relate to data science and analytics is desirable.
  • 4+ years of experience developing software or data products for a materials science or battery manufacturing, semiconductor or closely related application
  • Strong drive and demonstrable experience in accelerating learning cycles for the development of new battery materials or products with sustainable analytics
  • Experience with next generation battery cell materials including solid state electrolytes, anodes, and cathodes as well as the key problem statements related to each
  • Experience in software development in Python, and its major numerical and analytics libraries
  • Strong cloud-based development experience in AWS
  • Experience in databases (SQL, noSQL, MongoDB etc.), API, ETL, image filestore design and implementation, Spark etc.
  • Experience in interfacing with common manufacturing software tools (such as MES, SPC, LIMS etc.), and related analytics software package (such as JMP) is desirable
  • Experience working with various data types (e.g., sparse, time-series, image, etc.) is critical
  • Highly data driven; familiar with statistical software and approaches to provide data to make informed decisions
  • Ability to follow through and make significant progress in a fast pace, demanding, dynamic environment
  • Critical problem-solving skills: ability to ask the right people, the right questions at the right time in the right way
  • Detail oriented: ability to become subject matter expert in order to make informed decisions
  • Curiosity: demonstrate level of interest that enables inventiveness
  • Execution: demonstrate that follow through is given as much attention as problem solving
  • Capable of working as a member of a team across several cross functional disciplines, including product design, quality, construction, production, supply chain, controls, external vendors etc.
