About this role:
This is a hybrid role (3 days a week onsite) in either Pasadena, CA, Long Beach, CA or Houston, TX
The Process and Power Systems team is focused on the design and development of the next generation of our Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants. In this role, you will work closely with several team members in engineering, manufacturing, and outside consultants. This is a key role within the team that will lead the civil design efforts to challenge status-quo, develop innovative and cost-effective designs that work seamlessly within the larger framework of the current and future plants, and enable harnessing solar energy efficiently.
In this role, you will:
- Use your civil engineering skills to further the world’s transition to sustainable energy
- Serve as the civil engineering authority within Heliogen
- Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams to deliver next-gen civil designs for Heliogen
- Ensure precise location data (x, y, z elevations) for all on-site elements to facilitate accurate construction.
- Collaborate with surveyors and other stakeholders to verify and establish key reference points on the site.
- Translate ground preparation recommendations from Geotechnical Engineering into actionable plans for contractors.
- Provide detailed instructions on earthwork, including preparation for roads, foundations, and other essential elements.
- Develop plans to manage and direct water away from buildings and equipment on the site.
- Implement effective drainage solutions to prevent water accumulation and potential damage.
- Determination of final elevation and paving specifications for specific site locations based on the project requirements and provide cross-sectional details of road design.
- Produce comprehensive drawings encompassing road details, drainage plans, and other relevant civil details.
- Provide clarity on the movement of the earth, specifying quantities and locations for excavation and filling.
- Travel (20%) for initial site investigations as well as to provide on-site construction supervision and support.
- Assess potential risks and costs associated with projects
- Monitor project progress and assist in providing reports on project status
What's essential:
- Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited university with a PE License
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant design software.
- Ability to interpret geotechnical reports.
- Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control and regulatory approvals
- Minimum 8 years of experience in civil engineering and site development projects.
- Experience developing drawing and data packages for approval by regulatory bodies
- Strong communication and collaboration experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience with large industrial, infrastructure, or energy projects
- Track record of driving projects to successful completion.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment integrating the latest information as it becomes available and creatively resolving any emerging problems or deficiencies
