Position:  Senior Accountant 

Location: Hybrid Role - reports to Ames, IA office two times per week 

Pivot Bio is looking for a Senior Accountant - Commercial Finance to join our team. This position is a hybrid role, with office time based out of Ames, IA. Reporting to the Commercial Finance Manager, this position will be a leader in ensuring the integrity of the financial statements for Pivot Bio’s commercial business. The role will focus on leading the accounting for commercial equipment programs, environmental programs, and commissions, and will be involved in accounting for revenue, discounts, and receivables. Additionally, the role will support FP&A where needed in business planning and outlooks for the commercial business. This role will have the opportunity to drive process improvements in a rapidly changing environment throughout these areas. This is a high visibility position with interactions and dependencies on different teams, including Corporate Accounting, Commercial Marketing, Customer Success, and Supply Chain among others. 

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of commercial accounting, preferably in an agricultural environment, combined with knowledge of billing/payment operations and related accounting processes, the financial close processes, performing SOX control processes, ERP/CRM systems, and project management, preferably in a publicly traded company environment. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong business partnership skills, have a strong work ethic, be committed to continuous learning and improvement, have a strong desire to drive change and provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the month-end close process for Customer and Rep equipment, environmental, and commissions programs to ensure proper accounting in accordance with US GAAP and internal policies 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to review operational compliance, tracking, and payments related to Customer and Rep equipment, Environmental, and Commissions programs 
  • Support the Commercial Finance Manager in ensuring appropriate Revenue Recognition in accordance with US GAAP and internal policies 
  • Perform SOX control processes within assigned areas of responsibility; actively identify any gaps and/or new controls required 
  • Complete account reconciliations and flux analysis as part of the month-end close process 
  • Support FP&A in forecasting of commercial programs 
  • Support annual audit process within assigned areas of responsibility 
  • Primary liaison between the Controllership team and Commercial contacts where needed 

 Physical Demands:  

  • Job will involve mostly office and computer-based work  
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers 
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing 
  • Communicating with others to exchange information 

Qualifications and Experience:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance 
  • CPA preferred, but not required 
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience  
  • Outstanding communication, organization, and multi-tasking skills 
  • Ability to resolve complex issues, collaborating with other departments when necessary 
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative to define and resolve problems 
  • Displayed sense of ownership around responsibilities and outcomes 
  • Must be flexible, able to easily adapt, and be motivated by constant change 
  • Experience with major ERPs; NetSuite and/or SalesForce knowledge a plus 
  • Strong proficiency in Excel 
  • Knowledge of agricultural industry is a plus
