What you will do:
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with primary focus on project accounting to manage and track the costs associated with the construction of a demonstration facility, government grants, and internal R&D projects. This role will ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting throughout the life cycle of multiple projects, with an emphasis on cost control, compliance, and financial oversight. This role is also responsible for managing and analyzing a company's financial records, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and providing financial insights to support decision-making.
Responsibilities include:
Project Accounting
- Track and manage costs for various types of projects ensuring accuracy of costs allocation, and adherence to budgets.
- Construction of a demonstration plant
- Internal R&D projects
- Government contracts
- Prepare detailed cost reports, forecasts, and variance analysis to support project managers.
- Participate in project meetings and update project cost forecast monthly.
- Assist with the setup of approved projects in NetSuite or similar project software for tracking committed costs vs budget.
- Oversee process for initial project budget approval and subsequent forecast approvals based on approval workflow.
- Oversee the financial aspects of government grants, ensuring compliance with grant terms, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Research and create policies for tracking costs in accordance with GAAP, and Tax Law (i.e., R&D tax credit)
- Maintain thorough documentation for audit purposes, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, government and tax regulations, and company policies.
Corporate Accounting
- Assist with monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in financial audits, special government and tax project audits
- Assist with accounting and tax research, and prepare position taken analysis reports
- Assist with creating and implementing corporate accounting internal control policies
- Analyze financial data, identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, and provide insights to management.
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
What we need you to bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- 5+ years of experience in project cost accounting, or financial management of government grants
- Strong understanding of cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
- A critical thinking mindset and focus on finding answers
- Ability to drive continuous improvement of systems and processes
- Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail

- Proficiency in NetSuite
- Internal control documentation and audit experience
Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $94,000-$110,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
