Dandelion is a home geothermal company offering affordable geothermal installations that provide heating, cooling and hot water to homes by exchanging heat with the ground beneath them. Dandelion became an independent company in Spring 2017, after getting started at X , "the innovation engine of Alphabet."
Be part of the new team delivering Dandelion’s go-to-market strategy, product offering and sales process for new construction production developers and other large scale B2B opportunities. Support leadership with an existing customer pipeline while simultaneously building your own book of business with new developers. This position will be based in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic with a primary focus on developing new opportunities in these regions. Expect to work directly with department leadership to shape and implement the growth of our new construction team and offerings. The majority of your time will be split between sales development (education, speaking engagements, networking, delivering proposals, finding customers, and closing deals), and sales engineering (plan take offs, specifications, scopes of work, trade partner RFP, estimating, value propositions, and contract writing). Today geothermal HVAC makes up less than 1% of the new construction industry so the opportunity is virtually limitless. If you are the right person for this job, you are driven by this big picture opportunity but also ready to roll up your sleeves and do the hard work of cracking this market open and delivering high value, high function, geothermal systems to large and small builders across our territories and beyond.
Job description:
- Be an advocate for the power and impact of geothermal HVAC in the new construction market. Build excitement and opportunity.
- Work with leadership to set, meet, and exceed quarterly and annual sales targets.
- Develop a prospective customer list; build and develop your own customer pipeline regionally and nationally.
- Create RFP’s: Work with leadership to Identify and approach subcontractors in the customers market to initiate relationships, get pricing and gain market knowledge.
- Help develop and evolve new selling tools, collateral and messaging.
- Collaborate on market specific GTM strategies and client recruitment required to deliver Geothermal to new construction in multiple markets.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop system design, manual J load analysis, and product specifications.
- Create proposals for new construction developments, including pricing and presentations.
- Develop holistic value propositions that take into account regional and federal incentives, energy savings, and long term upside of geothermal ownership and use.
- Present preliminary and final-contract estimates and proposals to customers, and drive towards signed contracts.
- Meet with developers, engineers, architects, and trade partners, to articulate our value proposition as well as the technical details of system design, construction process, dependencies and timeline.
- Set production management team up for successful installs with detailed, accurate, sales engineering. Manage expectations accurately throughout the sales cycle and hand off great designs, project specifications, and budgets. Be an advocate for excellence from initial contact to final system commissioning in order to drive repeat business. The contract is the beginning of the relationship not the end of the sale.
Skills required:
- Prior B2B sales success, preferably in the construction, energy, or infrastructure industries.
- Demonstrated experience in commercial lead generation.
- Prior success managing and forecasting personal sales and pipeline quotas.
- Software and technology fluidity. Experience onboarding and working with electronic communication platforms, spreadsheets, CRM’s, project management platforms, etc.
- General understanding of the residential land development, HVAC industry, construction industry and process, and regulatory environment.
- General understanding of heating and cooling load measurements and design, building science, geothermal drilling and HVAC installation process.
- Ability to read architectural designs and technical specifications.
- Ability to work with GCs, architects and trade partners to understand their requirements and deliver value propositions reflective of their standard markets and products.
- Ability to work with leadership to translate project goals and schematic plans into geothermal HVAC scopes of work for system sizing and pricing.
- Love to learn and collaborate. We are on the forefront of delivering geothermal at scale to the new construction market and to do so well will require us to be learning from and about our clients, governments, and industry continually.
- Ability to teach and inspire. We also need to share what we learn and build enthusiasm while empowering existing tradespeople, builders and clients with knowledge about how geothermal works and the impact it can have on their projects, profits, and beyond.
- Passion for successful outcomes and repeat business. Drive to get proposals over the line but also stick with projects to ensure successful implementation including check-ins site visits, ongoing interaction with GCs or other subcontractors, problem escalation and solving with relevant project management partners. Every job must be a success and everyone on this team will do whatever it takes to guarantee this outcome
You’ll love working at Dandelion because:
We’re solving the world’s hardest problems. You’ll have the opportunity to pioneer renewable heating and cooling from the ground-up (literally). There’s no established playbook for fighting climate change, so your work will be messy, challenging, and build a better, cleaner world.
We’re good people. It sounds simple, and it is. We are passionate, vision-driven, low-ego, and treat one another with kindness and respect. We challenge ideas here, not people.
We hold each other accountable. We celebrate our wins and learn from our losses. We’re honest, realistic, and transparent across all areas of the business, every day -- not just at our monthly all-hands meeting.
