About the company:

At Bowery Farming, we dream of a world where agriculture gives back to the people and the planet more than it takes. But to achieve this, we need more than incremental change.

We need to reimagine farming from the ground up.

Everyday, Bowery’s purpose-driven team works toward this mission. Right outside of cities, we build indoor farms that grow wildly flavorful produce that’s defiantly free from pollutants, all while using less finite resources like space and water. Our smart farms are powered by our proprietary farm operating system, BoweryOS, creating a simplified, agile food system that’s focused on flavor, freshness, and safety.

At Bowery, we’re farming efficiently so we can feed effectively, democratizing access to fresh, local food in our communities. Join us: https://boweryfarming.com/careers/

Founded in 2015, Bowery Farming is on a mission to democratize access to high-quality, local, safe and sustainable produce. We build smart indoor farms near cities, growing fresher, pesticide-free Protected Produce with bold flavor in precisely controlled environments, 365 days a year. At the heart of each farm is the proprietary BoweryOS, which integrates software, hardware, sensors, AI, computer vision systems, machine learning models, and robotics to orchestrate and automate the entirety of its operations. As a result, each farm creates far less waste and uses a fraction of the water and land compared to traditional agriculture. For more insight on our culture, our teams, and all the things that make us so unique, check out The Roots: Bowery Farming's People Podcast.

About the Role:
As a Product Manager at Bowery, you’ll be responsible for creating and executing technology strategies that support our vision of building and operating a network of smart indoor farms. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to revolutionize a multi-millennium-old institution and tackle some of the toughest challenges facing our planet – water scarcity, food security, and pesticide use among them.
You’ll steer our Software, Robotics, Automation, Hardware, and Data technology teams to bring priorities to life. You’ll dig deeply to understand root causes and recommend solutions. Your planning cycles will be continuous, and represent the evolving needs of Bowery’s dynamic business as well as your stakeholders. You’ll play a key role in helping Bowery scale from a local community of farms to a technology-powered network that operates and optimizes autonomously.

The Product Manager role will support Bowery’s operational and commercial goals across existing and future farms. In this role, you’ll define technology solutions that improve farm throughput and order fulfillment. This includes expanding the BoweryOS, our proprietary technology platform that manages our farms, to automate operational decisions; developing data products that help us balance supply and demand; and supporting new innovation that enables our sales teams to reach more retailers (and their customers!).
This is a hybrid role. While we offer flexibility to work from home during the week, you’ll also be expected to join us at our headquarters in NYC part time, as well as occasionally visit our farms in Baltimore, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey to get to know your end users and product opportunity space.

We encourage you to apply even if this is your first time launching robotics, IoT, and smart farming solutions (for most of us this is true!) but you are excited about the space and the opportunity to implement creative decision making.

Based in New York City, Bowery is the largest vertical farming company in the United States, serving major e-commerce platforms and more than 850 grocery stores in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, including Albertsons Companies (Safeway and Acme), Amazon Fresh, Giant Food, Walmart, Weis, Whole Foods Market, and specialty grocers, with produce that's harvested year-round at peak freshness, delivered within days of harvest. To date, we have raised $472 million from leading investors, including Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC, Temasek, GV (formerly Google Ventures), General Catalyst, GGV Capital, First Round Capital, and individuals including Henry Kravis, Jeff Wilke, as well as some of the foremost thought leaders in food, including Tom Colicchio, José Andrés and David Barber of Blue Hill.

We celebrate unique backgrounds, qualities, and cultures that enrich the workplace. Join us in creating an inclusive work environment that is free of bias and discrimination, where everyone can be their authentic self.  We strongly encourage people from all walks of life and underrepresented backgrounds to apply and join the Bowery Farming team. We are an equal opportunity employer.

What You'll Do:

  • Define technology solutions that help us achieve our goals around farm throughput and order fulfillment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, particularly in Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and Product Marketing to identify and scope roadmap priorities
  • Work with technology teams – including Software, Infrastructure, Robotics, and Data – to execute priorities flawlessly
  • Define success metrics for your solutions, track them closely, and leverage them in your recommendations for future iteration
  • Anticipate how your solutions should evolve as Bowery rapidly increases its velocity around launching new farms

  • Who You Are:

  • You make decisions based on data, and solve root causes instead of treating symptoms
  • You demonstrate user empathy
  • You view assumptions and constraints as inspiration, not roadblocks
  • You drive successful outcomes with teams, regardless of functional area or level
  • You make decisions for your product area, versus relying on consensus
  • You distinguish what’s urgent from what’s not
  • You execute the product development lifecycle efficiently and flawlessly
  • You’re transparent about successes and disappointments
  • You have a keen product intuition and an eye towards system design and thinking, with a strong desire to build systems that scale
  • You have experience managing complex products, and are excited to innovate with technologies you haven’t worked with before

  • Who We Are:

  • Bowery is a place where everyone is welcome, included and empowered to reach their full potential
  • We live our shared values every day in both big and small ways: opt-in, think wildly different, break barriers together & be kind to the core
  • We are a mission-driven team of unconventional thinkers, problem-solvers, optimists and activators
  • We share a passion for giving back more to the planet than we take, growing deliciously abundant food without abundant harm
  • We are excited to hear from you!
