Position: Product Biosafety Specialist
Location: Remote, United States
Pivot Bio is seeking a Regulatory Science Specialist, Biological Safety that will be an integral part of the Regulatory and Compliance Team. This individual will be primarily responsible for managing safety evaluation studies for Pivot Bio’s microbes and products. The individual will initiate and oversee safety assessments, draft reports, and findings, and be able to perform critical review of published knowledge about bacterium of interest. A strong background in clinical microbiology, bacterial toxicity and/or pathogenicity, experience in critical reading and writing will make for a great candidate. Occasional travel will be required for team/company meetings and conferences.
Responsibilities:
- Liaise with internal and external partners to generate testing material to subsequently initiate and oversee completion of tests for biosafety assessment of Pivot Bio products.
- Generate and/or update Pivot Bio’s written guidance(s) for product biosafety including, but not limited to, product safety data sheets (SDS), safety memos and quick reference guides.
- Communicate knowledge gained from biosafety assessments of products across the Global Regulatory Policy and Registration team.
- Participate in the screening of scientific literature to support microbial product biosafety and Permitting and Compliance objectives.
- Provide support, as needed, of related regulatory affairs biosafety programs and projects in compliance with Pivot Bio’s policies.
Physical Demands:
- Job will involve mostly office and computer-based work
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical microbiology, bacteriology, or equivalent field of study with 2 years of related work experience required.
- Proven ability to critically read and interpret scientific and biosafety material.
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and efficient work habits.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
- Provide proof of writing skills, upon request.

All remote positions and those not located in our Berkeley, Hayward or Boston locations are paid based on National Benchmark data. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.

$67,000—$84,000 USD
