Position: People Operations Payroll Manager
Location: Remote, US
We are seeking a Payroll Manager to join our People team at Pivot Bio. The Payroll Manager is a key Individual Contributor role within the People Operations team and will lead the payroll function to deliver excellent payroll support and services to our employees. This role manages the transformation of our payroll practice as we look to standardize, streamline, and automate our payroll processes. The successful candidate should be a subject matter expert in processing payroll and managing the payroll function from end to end. Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the payroll operations to provide accurate and efficient payroll, from leading functional improvements to hands-on data input/import
- Ensure compliance and ensure required taxes, social contributions, benefit programs and other deductions are handled in accordance with local laws and regulations
- Measure, monitor and continuously improve the effectiveness of companywide payroll services working through internal stakeholders and external service providers
- Manage the external payroll service provider to ensure accurate and reliable service delivery, and effective system interdependencies requiring single and bi-directional data feeds
- Lead payroll transformation activities to harmonize payroll processes and enhance automation services for a nationwide, distributed, and fast-growing employee population
- Partner closely with People Operations Team members to monitor, audit, and load updated benefits and leave-related payroll items
- Partner closely with internal and external stakeholders to execute and refine a scalable infrastructure for reporting and analysis requirements, proactively identifying and leading projects that improve support of the broader People Team as well as full employee population
- Recommend and self-manage projects to improve support of the greater People Team and the full organization, including system issues/deficiencies
- Create and maintain detailed SOPs outlining processes for your work streams
- Fosters culture of accountability, trust, collaboration, development, and results consistent with the short and long-term objectives of the team
- Provide accurate and responsive support to employee inquiries, coordinating with other People Operations team members through resources like the Shared Services inbox
- General support for other People Operations team initiatives
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, or related field. CPP preferred
- A minimum of 8 years progressively responsible, hands-on Payroll experience required
- Prior experience with multi-state payroll required (CA payroll required). Experience with Global payroll preferred
- Prior experience acting as the system administrator for a payroll system required. Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred
- Prior experience collaborating and creating strong relationships with internal company stakeholders (Accounting, Finance, etc.) and external payroll-related vendors
- Proficient user of Microsoft Excel, including xlookup/vlookup
- Ability to flex and quickly adapt to multiple high, and potentially shifting, priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong sense of personal accountability and ability to work cooperatively within a developing team structure [see above suggestion “Demonstrated ability to...”
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to combine attention to detail with big picture perspective
- Strong organizational and time management skills
