We are Sila—a next generation battery materials company dedicated to accelerating energy transformation for a more sustainable future.
Our next-gen anode material is the first significant chemistry improvement to lithium-ion batteries to reach the market in 30 years. Our silicon anode material is a simple drop-in replacement to graphite and significantly boosts the energy density of lithium-ion batteries without compromising performance.
Today, Sila science powers innovative consumer electronics. Tomorrow, it will fuel our EV future and the electrification of everything.
We work directly with leading consumer electronics and automotive OEMs to help accelerate product roadmaps, and partners with battery manufacturers commercial cell production. Our partners include BMW, Daimler, and ATL.
Sila Nano works directly with leading consumer electronics and automotive OEMs to help accelerate product roadmaps, and partners with battery manufacturers commercial cell production.
Sila Nano’s first products significantly increase the energy density of state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries. Our materials are manufacturable economically at scale and are drop-in replacements to existing battery manufacturing processes.
About Us
We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?
Who You Are
You are a creative, diligent, resourceful, and hands-on technical contributor. You will design and develop processes to synthesize materials needed to set the new standard for Li-ion batteries. You enjoy closely collaborating with core and multidisciplinary teams on complex, sometimes multi-year, projects. As a team, we start with first principles, develop new materials, design & qualify processes for pilot and commercial scale production, and continually assess, support and improve our manufacturing capabilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Analysis and characterization of structure and property relationships in Li-ion battery materials with meticulous attention to detail.
- Assist in the transition of new product concepts into a product development pipeline through prototype design, and qualification toward commercialization.
- Working in a matrix organization, able to communicate and interact optimally with a range of people including business, manufacturing, and research managers, process engineers, R&D engineers, technicians, and operators.
- Assist with process integration of novel materials into existing workflows
- Collaborate with research teams to determine vital physical and chemical data needed to develop accurate process designs
- Analyze and correlate cell level performance metrics to material properties
Knowledge and Skills Requirement
- Ph.D. or MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics with 2+ years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated track record of supporting manufacturing processes through laboratory support
- Intimate knowledge of analytical methods for materials and battery characterization
- Fluent knowledge of designed experiments, research statistics, and computational methods for data analysis
- Experience with lithium ion battery technology.
- History of safety-centric development and operational accomplishments
- Desire to teach/learn, collaborate with a team, and solve problems independently
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and eager to create structure
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a laptop, copier/printer machine, etc.
- Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
- Repetitive use of hands - light to forceful handling of material
- Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
