About the company:
Base is building the foundation of American power. The grid is the largest, most complex machine in the world. Yet it’s aging, struggling to keep up with today’s demand, and is unprepared for our electrified future.
Base is modernizing the grid as the first engineering-led, technology-driven power company. We’re deploying a nationwide network of distributed batteries that strengthens critical infrastructure and saves Americans money.
Our team of engineers, operators, creatives, technicians, and electricians design and deploy systems at speed. If you want to tackle the problem that will define this century and shape the future of American energy, now is the time. Join us.
The Inbound & Materials Logistics Specialist is responsible for managing the flow of core components and materials from global suppliers and contract manufacturers (CMs) into Base Power Company's warehouse network. This upstream role ensures material readiness for production and deployment by expertly coordinating global freight, managing customs compliance, optimizing carrier relationships, and acting as the logistics bridge between Global Supply Managers (GSMs), Planning, and the internal Warehouse team.
What You'll Do
Global Freight & Carrier Management
Coordinate International Freight: Manage all inbound logistics for materials, components, and finished goods originating from global suppliers and Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
Carrier & 3PL Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for freight forwarders, customs brokers, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers for inbound shipments. Optimize carrier selection and mode of transport (Air, Ocean, Truckload) to balance cost, speed, and reliability.
Customs & Compliance: Prepare, audit, and maintain all necessary import/export documentation, ensuring compliance with domestic and international customs regulations and trade laws.
Materials Coordination & Readiness
Forecasting & Scheduling: Work closely with GSMs, Buyers, and Planners to align material delivery schedules with production and kitting timelines. Proactively communicate any logistics-related delays or risks.
Inbound Receiving Coordination: Act as the liaison between external carriers and the Warehouse Operations Team. Provide the warehouse with advanced notice, detailed receiving plans, and necessary documentation for incoming trucks and containers to ensure efficient offloading and inventory placement.
Discrepancy Resolution: Lead the investigation and resolution of inbound material discrepancies, including overages, shortages, or damage claims, collaborating with suppliers and the Quality team.
Process Improvement & Resolution
Cost Optimization: Monitor, track, and report on inbound logistics costs (freight, duties, storage), identifying and implementing strategies to reduce spend while maintaining service levels.
KPI Tracking: Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for inbound logistics, including On-Time Delivery (OTD) for materials, landed cost efficiency, and customs clearance times.
SOP Development: Create and standardize robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all inbound shipping, receiving, and compliance activities.
What You'll Bring
2+ years of experience in inbound logistics, global freight forwarding, or supply chain coordination, ideally within a manufacturing or high-tech environment.
Proven experience managing international shipping and customs documentation.
Strong organizational and project management skills with high attention to detail.
Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems and inventory management tools (to manage material tracking).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating between internal teams (Planning, Warehouse) and external partners (Carriers, Suppliers).
Preferred Skills
Direct experience with Contract Manufacturer (CM) logistics processes.
Specific knowledge of import/export regulations for energy storage or electronic hardware.
Experience negotiating freight rates and managing carrier relationships.
Familiarity with process improvement methodologies.
