The CFS Radiation Protection Team is responsible for the radiological safety of employees, the public, the environment, and property. We are looking for a Health Physicist with knowledge and experience with x-ray safety, non-ionizing radiation safety, and operational health physics under a radioactive materials license.
The Health Physicist is responsible for providing general health physics support to all areas and locations where radiation is used at Commonwealth Fusion Systems. This role focuses on x-ray and non-ionizing radiation (RF, Lasers, and EMF) in use in Manufacturing, R&D, and Tokamak Operational Environments.

This team member will:
Manage X-Ray, RF Safety programs and support the Laser and EMF Safety ProgramsAcquire a comprehensive understanding of RF and EMF safety through provided trainingConduct regular inspections and audits of equipment and practices to ensure adherence to safety guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory complianceDevelop and implement safety protocols as necessaryCollaborate with the EHS team on the safe use of lasers in both manufacturing and R&D settingsDevelop and deliver comprehensive ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety trainingDevelop supplemental material in support of training, including written training materials, manuals, guidance documents, instruction sets, forms, and postingsCollaborate with department heads and peers to incorporate safety considerations into the design and operation of new equipment or proceduresMaintain comprehensive records of inspections, audits, and trainingReport on safety metrics, incidents, and improvements regularly to managementEnsure compliance with CFS, local, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulationsSupport broader CFS Radiation Protection team as neededOther duties as assignedThe ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
Bachelor's or Graduate Degree in Health Physics, Physical Science, Engineering, or Biological Science.2+ years of professional experience in health physics including at least 1 years in applied health physicsExperience working under and applying radiation regulations, specifically 105 CMR 120/10 CFR 30 (or equivalent)Experience applying a variety of radiation monitoring techniques to different situationsExperience writing procedures, work plans, or technical documentsKnowledge of radiation control, radiological health, environmental laws and regulations, and radiation safety practices and techniquesStrong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community as well as foster a cooperative work environmentAdditional preferred experience and/or qualifications:
Experience with Manufacturing / Industrial X-Ray, RF, EMF, and/or Laser SafetyExperience working under a broad scope licenseExperience with radiation facility lifecycle - design, licensing, operation, and decommissioning. NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists) or CHP (Certified Health Physicist) desired but not requiredAbility to occasionally lift up to 50 lbsWork in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenicsPerform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of timeWillingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally#LI-Hybrid
