The Head of Digital owns the overall design and execution of the company’s digital strategy.  This includes oversight and direction for software engineering, data engineering, data science, and product owner teams, as well as supporting software platforms.  Formalize sPivot Bio’s digital agronomy capability to unite product and commercial teams by using common tools and sharing cross-functional data.  A critical aspect of the role is shaping the company’s platform strategy to enhance its ability to leverage data to support customer needs and experience.  The Head of Digital works closely with product owners to shape the strategic plan for agronomy systems, drafting the roadmap to deliver new products, product releases, and specific features that support Pivot’s ability to serve its customers from product concept through commercial scale.   

Essential functions 

  • Lead Digital strategy and implementation – driving discrete value for the company from digital technologies  
  • Work closely in tandem with the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Commercial Officer to deliver solutions that meet their needs 
  • Define digital agronomy at Pivot Bio – the key linkage between product development and commercial scale 
  • Work cross functionally to drive strategy in areas such as customer experience, digital strategy, and platform design 
  • Guide product owner(s) to conduct design research that informs customer experience and product roadmaps  
  • Drive the product development process by working with software engineering, data engineering, data science, and third-party partners to implement the product roadmap through design, build, deployment, and training activities  
  • Liaise with Product and Commercial Agronomy teams to improve data collection efforts across the product development lifecycle through commercial scaling

  • Design research and user experience mapping, applied to bridge digital strategy with product roadmaps 
  • Leverages Agile ways of working and project management to manage teams and software needs and implement best practices 
  • Familiarity with data science, data engineering, and software development approaches and techniques to lead the functions 
  • Quality control, user testing, and other processes to deliver product(s) that meet user needs and specifications

  • Guide workflows across data science and software engineering roles to ensure resources are aligned to value – delivering projects on time, with visibility, and clear communication across the organization 

Collaboration & Interaction 

  • Create strong ties between broader company strategy and digital systems, interface closely with the Product and Commercial leaders and teams in a matrix relationship, supporting multiple leadership teams – Growth, Product and Commercial  

 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • Yes -  leads a team of professionals and leaders across Software Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering and Product Owner(s) 

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • Bachelors degree, masters preferred 
  • 15 plus years of related experience in digital fields (e.g., data science, full stack software development, or related fields) 
  • Industry experience in Agriculture is not required but preferred 
  • Experience as a Product Owner, with agronomic data, and understanding of data science, full stack engineering, and/or data engineering approaches preferred. 
  • Deep understanding of digital systems and teams, strong technical capabilities, and a strategic mindset.   

 

Work authorization/security clearance requirements 

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States 

All remote positions and those not located in our Berkeley facility are paid based on National Benchmark data.  Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.

$228,000$285,000 USD
