About the company:

At SPAN, we believe that powering homes with clean energy should be a simple and delightful experience that is technology-forward and human-centered.

SPAN is advancing clean energy adoption with innovative hardware that replaces the electrical panel and becomes the home's center for connected power. It’s easier and faster to install, and it completely transforms the customer experience with intuitive energy controls and customizable backup power.

Our Mission

SPAN develops products that accelerate the rapid adoption of renewable energy in the home. The flagship SPAN Smart Panel is the first true evolution for the traditional home electric panel, harnessing enhanced technology for metering, monitoring, and control. An expanded product suite of intelligent, integrated solutions radically lowers the cost and complexity of energy upgrades–including solar, batteries and EVs–empowering homeowners to be active, resilient and informed players in the energy market.

The Role

SPAN’s hardware group is seeking an enthusiastic and driven test technician to work with the hardware engineering team to support the development of our next generation of products to drive home electrification. As a test technician you are responsible for building new test equipment, running R&D lab processes and functional tests that will produce quality data to influence critical design choices. You use your hands on skills in collaboration with a team of electrical, mechanical, and reliability engineers to advance SPAN’s product portfolio.

In this role, you will:

  • Implement tests to evaluate new materials, processes, and designs

  • Build, and maintain R&D and reliability test fixtures

  • Help engineers execute tests and identify open opportunities for improvement

  • Collaborate with data analysts and engineers to collect test data

  • Build, instrument, and test prototypes and other test articles

  • Assist with designing experiments and analyzing data gathered from testing

  • Create and maintain test reports and data repositories

  • Clearly communicate progress and issues to a broader team

  • Maintain lab equipment and spec out new equipment when necessary

  • Maintain a clean/organized workspace

  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and lab equipment

  • Comfort reading + building from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings

  • Meticulous and creative approach to problem-solving; excellent note-taking habits

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Interest and ability in learning new skills on the job

We would love to hire someone who has:

  • Experience working with safety and certification testing standards such as UL1998, UL 2594 and UL 67 and UL 916.
