About the company:

We're on a mission to make a big green dent in the universe by building a truly sustainable energy system globally.

That means making power greener, smarter, and more affordable for everyone.

We put customers at the heart of everything we do: with always-fair prices, transparency and outrageous customer service.

We drive system change: with transformative tech to make renewable energy the norm and end global reliance on fossil fuels.

Octopus Energy Group is made up of 10 businesses spanning 6 countries across 3 continents, including: Octopus Energy Retail, Kraken Technologies, Octopus Energy Generation, Kraken Flex, Octopus Electric Vehicles, and the Octopus Centre for Net Zero. More on OEG @ octopusenergy.group

Kraken is the technology behind Octopus Energy.

Our Global Platform Engineering department is responsible for architecting, developing, and maintaining the robust and scalable infrastructure, tooling, and services that power our platform. Joining a new FinOps team within Platform, you'll help drive the optimisation of our AWS Cloud and SaaS spend, leveraging your financial acumen and technical expertise to ensure cost efficiency and maximise value for our brands and for our clients.

Joining our team provides a unique chance to work on a wide range of new FinOps projects, contributing to the development and implementation of financial reports and dashboards. You'll stay up-to-date with the latest AWS pricing models, cost management tools, and best practices in FinOps. Your analytical mindset and attention to detail will be crucial as you identify opportunities to optimise costs, right-size resources, and generally help optimise our Cloud and SaaS spend.

We would prefer someone who can work in our London office but will consider remote candidates. However, you do need to be able to work in the UK.

We're very excited to be growing our team. We're looking for skills and experience to help shape and define the future of not only our team, but the wider business at a global scale. If you're reading this and grinning, please apply! There are huge challenges to tackle, and we need amazing people who are keen to get stuck in.

If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you.

Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Octopus, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, an inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone.

What you'll do

  • Analyse our AWS Cloud spend patterns and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Monitor and track AWS usage and billing data
  • Provide recommendations for right-sizing, resizing, or decommissioning resources to maximise cost efficiency
  • Plan and execute AWS savings plans, reservations and commitment-based savings plans
  • Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and metrics related to AWS Cloud spend
  • Liaise and collaborate with our AWS account management team
  • Stay updated on the latest AWS pricing models, cost management tools, and best practices in FinOps
  • Provide guidance and training to teams on cost optimisation strategies and AWS cost management tools
  • What you'll need

  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts, particularly AWS services and pricing models
  • Prior experience in financial analysis, cost management, or cloud economics
  • Proficient in data analysis and visualisation tools such as AWS Quicksight, Excel, Tableau, or similar
  • Familiarity with AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and other AWS cost management tools
  • Python programming experience for report generation and automation using external APIs
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to details and accuracy
  • Experience working closely with external IT vendors

  • What will help

  • AWS certifications, such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Certified Solutions Architect
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner certification
  • Previous experience with large-scale AWS organisations
  • Why else you'll love about us

  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit!
  • Octopus Energy is a unique culture. An organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker.
