About the Role:

As a Field Agronomy Specialist at Loam Bio, you will be an integral part of our agronomy team, focusing on the execution of trials to assess fungal inoculum performance in both greenhouse and field settings. Your role will involve close collaboration with our R&D leaders, soil laboratories, and product managers to deliver impactful carbon sequestration solutions for farmers. You will actively contribute to our R&D greenhouse and field trials, overseeing the monitoring, collection, and processing of soil samples, as well as the measurement of agronomic data and observations across regional NSW. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage with other facets of Loam's R&D efforts, including our state-of-the-art soil analysis and microbiology laboratories, making a lasting impact on the forefront of sustainable agriculture.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the agronomy team and external parties to design, implement, and evaluate field trials.
  • Assist in the establishment, monitoring and data collection of greenhouse trials
  • Conduct intensive soil sampling campaigns for small plot trials
  • Collect and record data on crop growth, pest and disease incidence, and environmental factors.
  • Frequent monitoring and management of crop health, irrigation, and fertilisation to ensure optimal growth of our field trials.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarising trial results and findings.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in agronomy and soil science through research and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agronomy, or soil science.
  • Experience with Australian wheat, barley and canola systems.
  • Strong understanding of agronomic principles and soil fertility management.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse and small plot trial methodologies.
  • Familiarity with soil sampling techniques and laboratory analysis.
  • Basic understanding of wheat, barley, canola physiology, plus plant nutrition.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and in various weather conditions.
  • Willing to travel frequently and spend significant time on the road
  • Passion for agriculture and sustainable farming practices.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and research findings.
