About the role
Plenty is looking for a Farm Direct Materials & Logistics Manager to join our Farm Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end supply chain processes that support the Compton Farm Operations. This includes overseeing buying processes, procurement, the bill of materials, receiving supplies, improving existing supply chain operations, reducing costs, driving demand planning, and overseeing logistics for our indoor vertical farm facility in Compton, CA. Additionally, this role will ensure suppliers are held accountable to quality, surety of supply, and cost as well as building relationships and strategic partnerships with key suppliers. This is a highly visible key role within our organization, and you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our production operations.
What you'll do
- Be part of a Winning Team: In this role you will be part of the Farm Operations Team driving Operational Excellence through collaboration and teamwork
- Procurement and Supplier Management: Develop and execute procurement strategies to source high-quality materials and supplies at competitive prices. Manage relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and monitor supplier performance
- Receiving Supplies: Oversee the receiving process, ensuring that materials are received, inspected, and stored appropriately. Implement efficient inventory management practices to minimize wastage and optimize resource utilization
- Existing Supply Chain Improvement: Continuously evaluate the existing supply chain processes and identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements
- Cost Reduction: Implement cost-saving initiatives and strategies to reduce the overall cost of materials and supplies without compromising quality or reliability
- Demand Planning: Develop MRP demand planning strategies, monitor market trends, and work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the right amount of materials is available to meet production schedules
- Collaboration: Collaborate with various teams, including production, quality control, and logistics, to ensure smooth operations and alignment with business objectives
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies in the supply chain operations
- Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of supply chain operations and provide regular reports to the executive team
- Shipping: Oversee the scheduling of pickups and deliveries with our customers, book carriers, and manage claims
- Bill of Materials Management: Create and maintain accurate bill of materials (BOM) for all our vertical farming facilities, ensuring that materials and components are available when needed and align with production requirements
- Travel up to 25% of the time

What you'll bring to the table
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in buying, vendor management, logistics, and supply chain management, with a proven track record in procurement, MRP, and cost reduction
- Warehouse and Logistics Experience
- Excellent knowledge of BOM management, materials planning, and inventory control
- Proficiency in supply chain software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset
- Excellent commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility

Food & Safety Requirements

Plenty’s target compensation range for this role is $106,400 - $117,000 for this location. Actual compensation is commensurate with experience and alignment with role requirements.
