The Role
We are looking for an outstanding engineering leader working on the Environmental Conditioning System (ECS) and joining our innovative team that will shape the future of urban e-mobility.
This position will report into our Head of Systems Design, will be part of an interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) and will assume overall responsibly for the design, development, functionality, performance, and certification of the ECS for our Lilium Jet from prototype to serial production.
The ECS is required to fulfill several functions, including but not limited to Cabin and Cockpit Air Conditioning, Avionics Bay Cooling, Battery Conditioning, and Cockpit Window Defogging.
This role will liaise with relevant stakeholders and design leads to define requirements and coordinate the development of components within the system. Furthermore, it will be required to lead, guide and mentor the members of the ECS design team.
Your Day to Day:
- Lead the ECS team and drive the development of the ECS up to serial production.
- Ensure the functional, performance, structural, manufacturing and maintenance aspects of the system design are combined to create an integrated solution that fully satisfies the certification and business requirements.
- Assist in supplier selection and management process.
- Ensure that system and subsystem interfaces are identified, documented, and managed in accordance with Lilium process and industry best practice.
- Drive the definition and management of requirements in accordance with ARP-4754A/ED-79A.
- Ensuring adherence of the design system architecture in accordance with ARP-4754A/ED-79A and ARP-4761.
- Manage the system implementation cycle with particular attention to the right side of the V-cycle (verification, testing, compliance), with particular focus on System Qualification based on DO160G requirements.
- Manage Problem Reports life cycle and be part of the CCB for evaluation and closure of them.
- Create, review, and approve certification related documentation.
- Provide guidance in certification matters and interact with regulatory bodies such as EASA.
- Ensure the system development is aligned with the project timeline.
- Provide regular updates to the IPT Leadership, on the system development progress; this will include identification and escalation of dependencies and blockers.
Your Profile:
- Degree/Masters/PhD (or equivalent) in Engineering/Science subject is required.
- At least 10 years’ experience in the development and implementation of aircraft Environmental Conditioning System (ECS) and/or Thermal Management System (TMS) solutions, i.e. from concept development to entry into service, is required.
- A thorough understanding and appreciation of safety principles and practice in the context of civilian aircraft operations and certification.
- Familiarity with hardware and software development process according to DO-178B/C and DO-254.
- Experience in test & test rig instrumentation, test execution & data processing.
- Experience in System qualification based on DO160G is required.
- A deep and practical understanding of thermodynamics principles and practice in the context of aircraft thermal managemental and aircraft environmental control is required.
- Proven professional experience with type certification methods is required.
- At least 3 years’ experience in an engineering leadership role is required.
- Experience with working with various suppliers and managing deliverables is required.
- Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial.
