Who You Are
As a Senior Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability Specialist, you will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to Sila’s business units, playing a critical role in aligning EHS&S strategies with business objectives. You will drive organizational effectiveness, foster our culture and positive employee relations, and contribute to the overall success of Sila. You are someone who can build strong relationships with leaders and employees, provide expert EHS&S guidance, and translate business strategies into effective EHS&S initiatives within a complex and fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Build strong relationships with leaders and employees within assigned business units.
- Complete technical EHS&S tasks end-to-end and provide tactical support, when needed.
- Assist with the development, implementation, improvement, and support for EHS&S policies, standards, work instructions, & training materials for needed programs such as: regulated waste, industrial hygiene, isolation of hazardous energy, confined space entry, work at heights, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, and hot work.
- Conduct audits with outside agencies, such as Bay Area Air District, the local CUPA, etc.
- Assist with exposure monitoring studies, internal audits, and event investigation.
- Deliver onsite training in technical topics, such as isolation of hazardous energy/LOTO, confined space, hazard communication, regulated waste, contractor safety, combustible dust, etc.
- Accurately maintain EHS&S documents, records, and data in a consistent and repeatable manner.
- Accurately research and analyze relevant regulations, codes, and standards to help guide Sila’s compliance efforts.
- Report into the EHS Site Manager at the Alameda site.
- Be an active participant in Sila’s Emergency Response Team.
- Be on an on-call rotation for the EHS&S Hotline to respond to emergencies.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- BA/BS Degree or higher in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or similar field with at least 3 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing space (or similar).
- CSP, CIH, MPH preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Passion for the environment and keeping people healthy and safe at work.
- Desire to learn and adapt in new environments.
- Proficient with Google Suite or related software.
- Excellent documentation abilities.
- Desire to learn and use varying tools and technologies.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Required to work onsite 5 days a week in Alameda.
- Must be comfortable in manufacturing and laboratory environments.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., respirator, safety shoes, safety glasses), when required, and exercise compliance with safety procedures.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times, 50 pounds with assistance.
- Occasionally kneel or bend.
Regular Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
The starting base pay for this role is between $105,000 and $133,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
