Position: Program Specialist, Environmental, Health, Safety, & Security (EHS&S)
Location: St. Louis, MO
About the Role
As a Program Specialist of EHS&S at Pivot Bio, you will be part of the EHS&S team across North America and report to the Senior Manager, EHS&S with a dotted line reporting to facility managers. This role will contribute significantly to our mission of transforming agriculture by collaboratively developing and improving workplace safety. Our goal is to continue building a culture focused around our Core Values right alongside Safety and Engagement between people and the environment. This role is responsible for ensuring Pivot Bio is in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and to ensure the safety management system will scale with the company as we continue to grow.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, environmental and security risks.
- Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
- Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
- Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
- Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
- Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Managing safety or occupational health program elements.
- Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.
- Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
- Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
- Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
- Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
- Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards.
- Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.
- Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Expected travel 25%
Qualifications and Experience:
Required
- Experience working in rapidly growing, multi-site organization(s)
- Excellent communication skills, results-orientated, proven ability to manage conflict
- 5 years’ experience in environmental, health and safety; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for 2 years experience
- Valid driver’s license required
- Knowledge of Safety and Health principles including the ability to identify known potential exposures and recommended corrective actions as demonstrated by prior work experience.
- Possesses management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Exhibits a working knowledge of Cal-OSHA General Industry, and Construction Safety regulations.
- Ability to develop, implement and evaluate written safety and training programs.
- Displays knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and email.
- Organized and proactive with a positive attitude.
- Forward-thinking and passionate about safety.
- Ability to be self-sufficient, research solutions, and make recommendations to management.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field, Master’s degree desirable
- Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or any relevant safety certification
- 5 years’ experience in environmental, health and safety
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 10-25 pounds
- Perform field work as assigned
