Rondo is looking for a hands-on Director of Electrical Engineering to lead a team of electrical engineers in designing, developing, and implementing the electrical components of the RHB (Rondo Heat Battery). The ideal candidate will be an exceptional leader, driving the overall power electrical design and continuous design improvement.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to): 

  • Design and implement medium voltage (kV-30kV) and high power (~100MW+) modular electrical systems that meet relevant code and safety standards as well as performance, lifetime, and cost targets 
  • Lead the Electrical Engineering team, working across the Engineering organization to develop Rondo Heat Battery electrical systems 
  • Manage schedules and resource allocation across multiple simultaneous projects 
  • Ensure the absolute safety of the Rondo Heat Battery product with respect to electrical and electrical-adjacent components and subsystems 
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive electrical and commissioning plans for the Rondo Heat Battery, encompassing sequencing and acceptance criteria 
  • Support specification validation and implementation of high voltage electrical systems at customer locations to interface to Rondo Heat Batteries 
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain group to evaluate and select electrical components and subsystems that meet project requirements and specifications and to ensure procurement and sourcing of all electrical components and equipment in a timely manner 
  • Own the creation and maintenance of detailed implementation documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials as well as sales and operation & maintenance documentation 

 

What You Will Bring: 

  • A graduate degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience, with working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and processes 
  • 10+ years of demonstrated success in developing and deploying large (multi-MW scale), medium voltage (kV-30kV) electrical systems  
  • 5+ years in leadership position(s) with experience working across Engineering disciplines, and a track record of creating collaborative and high-functioning teams 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in working with Engineers and Engineering problems across multiple disciplines 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across your team, stakeholders, and Senior Leadership 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources effectively 

 

Bonus Points:  

  • Experience with industrial or utility-scale energy systems, especially energy storage systems 
  • Familiarity with relevant design software, best practices, and tools 
  • Experience designing or managing control system architecture and development

This role necessitates being onsite at our Alameda HQ. The estimated annual salary range for this position is $230,000 to $270,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
