Position:  Director, Communications

Preferred Location:  Remote

Pivot Bio is seeking a Public Relations Director to design and implement integrated communications strategies that cultivate media relationships, engage key stakeholders, build brand awareness, and protect and enhance reputation. The ideal candidate will create effective PR campaigns, work closely with internal teams (eg. marketing, digital, sales training, people ops) to ensure brand consistency across all platforms, develop and lead strategic communications for issues management and crisis communications.

  Responsibilities: 

• Create and execute a corporate communications content strategy across multiple channels to support business objectives and build brand awareness among key stakeholders. 
• Advance the company’s positive image while ensuring strong online and offline brand presence. 
• Ensure consistency of brand voice, messaging, and positioning across the company, including building processes for content reviews and approvals, branding, and related best practices.  
• Build and maintain relationships with industry thought leaders and top-tier journalists. Shape narratives and pitch story ideas that result in positive news coverage and competitive positioning in the market. Support company leaders during the interview process.  
• Lead communications for issues and crisis management, including crisis communications planning process and company preparedness.
• Partner with company experts and other stakeholders to architect strategies, create programs, and develop materials that build upon our agricultural and climate benefits while uniquely positioning and differentiating Pivot Bio in the biofertilizer category and broader agtech/climate tech market.  
• Write and edit external communications materials, including articles of various lengths, blog posts, speeches, quotes, social media posts, and news releases that align with and support the company’s purpose. 
• Manage external partners/agencies as needed to deliver work products 

Qualifications and Experience 

• Ten or more years of related experience in public relations and/or corporate communications
• A successful track record of effectively managing 24/7 communications response cycles, as needed
• Strong presence with the confidence to share new ideas or challenge current thinking, both 1:1 and in groups that represent different levels and experience. 
• A creative thinker and independent leader who can solve problems and seeks to build understanding amid ambiguity
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines consistently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and consistently demonstrate exceptional judgment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to advocate the company's position with external stakeholders, media, and other audiences as needed.
• Knowledge of the agricultural industry, environment, or sustainability a plus
• Role requires 25% travel to diverse urban and rural locations
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or relevant field
