In this role within our Base Operations team, you'll collaborate with Zoox's engineering teams and technicians to develop and finalize troubleshooting / diagnostic testing processes and procedures, ensuring their inclusion in our Technical Publications Service Manual. You'll oversee technical content creation for various areas, from diagnostics to wiring repair, and guide other technical writers and technician teams. You'll also establish and maintain standardized writing requirements and ensure document accuracy through cross-functional reviews and approvals. Your expertise in electrical systems, diagnostic tools, and wiring repair will be essential. With over 6 years of experience in technical roles, you'll bring invaluable insights to the team, ensuring the development of safe and efficient diagnostic and repair processes that maximize the uptime of our autonomous robotaxi fleet.

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $96,000 to $139,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.

In this role, you will:

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering teams across Zoox to develop troubleshooting and diagnostic processes and work cross-functionally with tech writing teams to capture this knowledge in our Technical Publications Service Manual
  • Create and manage technical content for the following functional areas: diagnostics & troubleshooting, wiring harness repair information, software programming, post-repair bring-up, component & vehicle calibration procedures, fleet upgrade and rework procedures, Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), among others
  • Develop and oversee standardized diagnostic and electrical repair technical writing requirements within the Technical Publications Style Guide
  • Provide expertise and mentorship to other diagnostics technicians and fleet support technicians on effective methods for diagnosing and repairing electrical issues
  • Ensure the accuracy of technical documentation through a cross-functional review and approval process
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Technology, Aviation Engineering, Aviation Technology, or equivalent field)
  • 6+ years of hands-on practical troubleshooting experience focused on electromechanical systems
  • Ability to comprehend wiring schematics, electrical system drawings, and component technical specifications to develop diagnostic test and system verification procedures for electrical faults
  • Proficiency with OEM or aftermarket diagnostic test tools from the automotive or related fields and the ability to utilize and integrate diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), input/output data parameters, and device controls into our diagnostic test procedures
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical circuit testing, wiring, and connector repair strategies, using standard and specialized electrical test tools such as digital multimeters, test lamps, oscilloscopes, crimping, soldering equipment, and terminal removal and assembly tools. 
  • In-depth knowledge of serial data communication networks such as CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet, with the ability to troubleshoot device issues on these networks
  • Experience using tools with Unified Diagnostic Service (UDS) protocol (ISO 14229)
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Markup language experience (HTML, XML, or SGML) or familiarity with XML/DITA authoring software (oXygen, XMetaL, FrameMaker, or Arbortext)
  • Experience with JIRA, Github, Confluence, Adobe Creative Suite, CATIA 3DX (or similar CAD programs)
  • SAE required diagnostics standards experience (i.e., SAE J1850, ISO 9141-2)
  • Automotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR) experience
