We are looking for a design engineer to join the mobile robotics team, this person will be take ownership of the design process from cradle to grave on Mobile Robotics products:
Brief → Research → Concept Generation & Proposals → Prototype & Develop → Productionise
What does this mean?
Brief: An ability to scope out briefs from what we want to achieve and deliver. Requires everything from cross communication with wider team and company down to recognising opportunities for small impactful improvements and taking the initiative to work on. For example, an entire robotic sub system such as an autonomous recharging system. This encompasses the electro-mechanical on board system and factory ground side power delivery system. Also an example, assembly lineside lean improvement on a robot assembly process.
Research: from blue sky novel ideation to liaising with team members for their particular experience and everything in between. Primary and secondary research techniques, supplier visits, site visits, conferences, meet ups, assembly line side feedback. This is a continuous ‘always learning’ part of the role to facilitate delivering best in class product.
Concept generation & proposals: includes all of your creative techniques: napkin sketches, presentation sketching, 3D CAD modelling, rendering, render animations, illustrations and more – communicate the idea in a clear and succinct way. Use the appropriate techniques for the right purpose, iterate quickly, strike the right balance between ‘quick and dirty’ and ‘polished presentable’ work.
Prototype & Develop: detailed CAD development, FEA simulation studies, get physical: order/make parts, use workshop skills, fabrication, rapid prototyping, 3D printing, laser cutting: experiment, test, learn and iterate. Work with cross functional teams including but not limited to: electrical engineering/software/factory operations/suppliers
Productionise: suitable processes and material for scale up, supply chain capacity, BoM control, make vs buy analysis, FMEAs, technical engineering, technical drawings, tolerance stacks. We are putting our product into the real world here, be professional, ensure everything is covered, ask the right questions to enable the best delivery.
