Controls and Instrumentation Engineering Intern

Job Description

Lilac is looking for students interested in pursuing a career in Controls Engineering while also working in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The internship will expose you to many aspects of controls and instrumentation engineering, from process conception through fabrication and commissioning. You will work with Electrical, Controls, and Process Engineers and Technicians to design, configure, and fabricate automated test skids to support larger process design efforts. As part of the Lilac team, you will most importantly be working in a supportive, collaborative environment that will help you develop the practical engineering skills needed to succeed in industry. This is an internship position based in Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with electrical, controls, and process engineers to generate design basis for constructing and automating test skids
• Be exposed to EPCM type design work by designing control systems and generating necessary documentation for construction and installation including schematics, layout, and I/O Lists
• Learn how to spec out equipment and instrumentation based on design criteria
• Install and integrate various process equipment and instrumentation
• Support process engineers by generating calibration and performance curves
• Contribute to the development of commissioning plans for testing skids
• Be trained to configure Siemens PLCs for system automation
• Learn how to perform control loop tests of equipment and instrumentation
• Network with other members of the Lilac Team and develop professional relationships
• Have fun while performing meaningful work

Candidate Qualifications

• Actively Pursuing a Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering – Sophomore or Junior Standing
• Has interest in pursuing a career in Process Controls or Controls and Instrumentation
• Critical Thinking and Problem-solving skills
• Has a passion for learning and exploring new ideas
• Excited to work on a small, fast-paced startup team
• Excellent communication skills

Compensation

• Hourly range: $22-$27/hr (commensurate with experience)
