The Composites Lead  at Beta Technologies  will be responsible for the development, specification, and growth of the internal composites department at Beta Technologies, as well as leading the team of engineers and technicians who work in that facility.

The successful candidate will be able to lead the composite shop growth at Beta preparing for the rigor of producing complicated certified composite parts for Beta’s aircraft production.  Along the timeline to that goal, will be the support of Beta’s current prototype aircraft, development of new composite systems, and potentially the production of future prototype aircraft..

Additionally, the successful candidate will interface with engineers and analysts  in the Structures group to advise on DFM methods and viability of new designs.  To accomplish this, a thorough understanding of composite structure design, tool design, manufacturing methods, material systems, inspection methods, and finishing systems is required.

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activities (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stairs), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery surfaces), bending, reaching, handling (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, picking, punching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), gloves, and hearing protection. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or automobile. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization. Some positions entail working with small parts/components. Employees must have excellent hand-eye coordination and good manual dexterity in both hands. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Ability to interpret  Beta’s composite needs and size shop, equipment, and capabilities accordingly
  • Capable of inspiring and leading others
  • Ability to hand laminate, set up infusions, and work with prepreg fabrics.
  • Proficient with the wide variety of manufacturing techniques used in modern composites
  • Experience with core materials and bonding and fastening of composite assemblies
  • High attention to detail and a desire for accuracy with ability to read and follow detailed work instructions and quality control processes
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Implement and main 5/6s standards
  • Minimum Qualifications we are seeking:

  • 5+ years experience in composite manufacturing or related positions
  • 3+ years experience in managing composite shop or manufacturing fabrication shop
  • Experience leading small teams in a manufacturing type environment
  • Innovative and mechanically oriented mindset; looks for ways to improve processes and promote quality

  • Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you

  • Experience with composite repair techniques
  • Familiarity with ASTM/SACMA, AS/ISO9001 standards
  • Direct experience managing a team in an aviation environment
