About the company:

Fyto leverages automation to unlock the potential of unique aquatic plants. We partner with farmers to build a new foundation for food, feed, and fertilizer that supports a healthy planet and resilient food system. Our automated cultivation and harvesting technologies grow highly nutritious crops at scale, which drastically reduce input costs for food producers.

About FYTO

FYTO is a renewable resource management and circular agricultural ingredients company on a mission to help farmers accelerate and profit from the transition to a more sustainable food system. Launched out of MIT in 2019, FYTO has developed a proprietary aquatic crop production platform that uses a fraction of the resources required by terrestrial crops to create safe, natural products that enable farmers to do more with less. In partnership with America’s agricultural community we help design, develop, finance, and operate aquatic cropping systems that transform nutrient, water, land, and labor challenges into animal and plant nutrition solutions.

Our people are what make our mission possible. We are passionate about our contributions to FYTO and invested in building a rewarding culture of innovative and collaborative teammates, a supportive environment, diverse career opportunities, and meaningful work. FYTO is a place for people that believe they can change the world and want to take action to leave a positive lasting impact. If you share these traits and want to apply yourself to rewrite the rules of agriculture, then come grow with us!

About the Role

FYTO is seeking a Commercialization Manager to oversee a broad assortment of cross-functional, mission-critical market entry initiatives. We are looking for a kind, ambitious colleague who thrives in an ambiguous environment and seeks out opportunities to take on new challenges. To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong understanding of the technical, operational, and commercial considerations that influence the introduction of new capital-intensive technologies and products competing in highly commoditized industries. Candidates should also be action-oriented freethinkers that are equally comfortable hosting a dairy farmer field day as they are managing contract negotiations with a F500 agricultural trading corporation. This role requires a farmer advocate who is motivated to identify creative solutions that address the needs of a complex stakeholder network and enact change that places FYTO at the center of a movement towards a more circular food system.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct rigorous primary and secondary market research, coupled with data-directed analysis, that informs our market entry and growth strategy. Research will span topics such as product development, regulatory, manufacturing, compliance, distribution, positioning, and pricing.
  • Create professional sales and marketing collateral (e.g. company presentations, product brochures, data sheets, white papers, case studies, website copy) and tools (e.g. ROI analysis, ESG calculator).
  • Assist with product, specification, and packaging development in partnership with Plant Science, Engineering, Operations, and Finance. Oversee programs to attain and remain in compliance with all regulatory requirements related to the production, labeling, and distribution of products.
  • Develop and operationalize an efficient, effective sales and operations planning and execution process that streamlines supply and demand planning, reporting, and troubleshooting.
  • Identify, source, negotiate, close, and manage new business development opportunities.
  • Support brand development work such as insights research, landscape audits, RFP development, agency and consultant management, and external brand activation strategy and execution.
  • Scope, secure, and manage research opportunities with academic institutions, government agencies, contract research organizations, industry trade associations, and prospective commercial partners.
  • Develop and operationalize a site due diligence and prioritization framework that assesses the techno-commercial risk and financial viability of projects, ultimately resulting in go / no-go decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or other relevant disciplines.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in product management, business development, sales, marketing, corporate strategy, management consulting, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital.
  • Experience at a high-growth organization in the agribusiness, renewable energy, or food industry.
  • Low-ego, self-motivated, and results oriented with a bias for action and hands-on problem solving.
  • Autonomous self-organizer who thrives in a lean, fast-paced, resource-limited environment and is comfortable navigating the uncertainties that come with building a company in an undefined market.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a range of diverse stakeholders.
  • Analytical and detail oriented, with an ability to synthesize insights that drive alignment and progress.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong presentation skills.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel throughout California (>15%), with infrequent travel elsewhere.

Benefits

The pay range is currently between $120,000 to $135,000 in annual gross compensation. Equity compensation is additional. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
