As the Automation and Controls Engineer for Nature’s Fynd, you will be a key member of the process engineering team responsible for designing, implementing, operating and optimizing the automation of our unique fermentation technology, initially at pilot scale and later at commercial scale. You will design, execute and manage automation processes that will have a lasting impact on the business. The position will work with internal technology teams and external automation suppliers to develop a first-of-its-kind system for the food industry. You will be responsible for driving functionality and efficiencies by monitoring, maintaining and improving the installed automation systems as well as leading changes driven by internal and external technology developments and automation systems integration efforts.



Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing automation projects from concept through scope definition, design, costing, planning, installation, start-up, and support 
  • Works with engineering, operations, and third-party vendors and contractors to deliver cost effective solutions that meet functional and business requirements
  • Define system validation requirements, develop validation documentation, generate and execute test protocols
  • Lead cross-functional reviews of electrical design, controls configuration, and functional specification documentation, provided by external vendors
  • Develop, recommend and implement as directed, an organization-wide technical standards/guidelines relative to hardware and panel design, PLC and HMI programming, SCADA, and IT/OT network architecture 
  • Interface and communicate with the plant to ensure seamless handover of projects to plant operations 
  • Support plant operations after handover
  • Design training programs and perform on-the-job training of other maintenance employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications/Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role in the manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP)
  • Experience in fermentation or food & Beverage industries with a focus on automation and control systems
  • Knowledge of industrial networks, controls software, WMS, and MES
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic control systems and clearly communicate technical solutions for any control system challenges
  • Experience with AC/DC motors, VFD, industrial robots, sensors, and IP rated equipment 
  • Experience with ASRS, AGV, or shuttle systems is a plus
  • Experience programming PLC’s (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or other), HMI’s, and SCADA (Ignition)
  • Familiar with standards for machine safety and electrical hazards 
  • Superior team-building skills to work with all levels of the organization
  • Hands-on experience
  • MS Office, AutoCAD Electrical
  • 10% travel in the first 2 years, up to 40% travel when we ramp up additional plants (including international ones)
