About the company:
Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The Valo, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals. Valo is targeting airliner-level safety certification in 2028 ahead of entering service with our airline and operator customers.
What to Expect
As a Requirements and Verification Engineer for Propellers, you’ll be instrumental in linking our technical design to safety and certification outcomes.
Working at the heart of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll define and manage system-level requirements, develop robust verification plans, and ensure evidence is traceable and complete. This role brings technical depth and broad collaboration - touching everything from safety assessments to testing at our Kemble site.
What You’ll Do
Capture, define, and decompose system and component-level requirements for the propeller system from vehicle-level and regulatory sources
Ensure all requirements are verifiable, validated, traceable, and kept current in our requirements management tools
Develop and maintain the verification plan, linking each verification activity back to specific requirements
Translate verification strategies into executable tests and analyses in collaboration with the test and design teams
Collate, author, and review verification evidence to support certification submissions, ensuring completeness and clarity
Identify and resolve gaps in compliance evidence, proactively ensuring all expected system behaviours are captured
Own and coordinate system-wide technical challenges including propeller balancing, critical parts control, loads interaction, and cross-disciplinary performance impacts
Support Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and System Safety Assessments with the safety team
Work closely with engineering teams across aerodynamics, loads, safety, structures, and test to manage interactions and technical integration
Attend and support testing at Kemble and other sites, ensuring test outcomes align with verification needs and certification objectives
Communicate technical issues, status, and verification strategy clearly across internal and external reviews
What You’ll Bring
A degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
Experience in systems engineering, particularly in requirements management and verification planning
Familiarity with requirements tools and traceability best practices
Strong ability to integrate inputs across multiple technical domains and manage system-level attributes
Understanding of the V-model approach to verification
Awareness of airworthiness and certification frameworks; experience with CS-P or similar standards is highly desirable
Analytical and detail-oriented mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving
Confident communicator who can operate across engineering disciplines
Comfortable being onsite in Bristol 3 days per week and supporting tests in Kemble as required
