About the company:

Vertical is a British aerospace tech company that's pioneering electric aviation through designing and building the UK's first all-electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL). A quieter, faster, more sustainable way to travel between urban destinations.

Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The Valo, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals. Valo is targeting airliner-level safety certification in 2028 ahead of entering service with our airline and operator customers.

What to expect

Reporting to a Senior Aircraft Build & Maintenance Technician, we are looking for an experienced Aircraft Electrical Technician with high quality electrical skills and sound personal standard practices to assist in the build, commissioning, maintenance and testing of electric/hybrid prototype or production aircraft and their sub-systems.

In addition, you will be required to hold a certifying technician authorisation level which will allow you to certify other technicians work within your trade scope. You will be responsible for the quality and safety standards around your own work and the work you certify as well as acting as a mentor to other technicians. You will also stand in for the Senior Aircraft Build Technician when they are absent.

You may also be required to assist in the building, commissioning and deployment of test rigs as well as providing support for our flight test programme.

Our Vertical Flight Test Centre at Cotswold Airport near Cirencester will be the primary work location but there may be occasional requirements to visit other Vertical Aerospace sites in the UK or temporary secondments overseas.

What you'll do

  • Carrying out assembly of electrical systems IAW engineering drawings, build plans, digital mock-ups and instructions from Senior Technicians to the highest quality standards to ensure airworthiness.

  • Carrying out the build, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of electrical sub-assemblies and full aircraft systems as well as providing support for aircraft systems test.

  • Ensuring all appropriate documentation is completed and maintained (work cards, tech logs, ERP system entries etc).

  • Maintaining a high standard of tool cleanliness and control throughout the hangar and workshop areas whilst maintaining exemplary FOD prevention methods throughout.

  • Providing support for the flight test programme in the UK and possibly overseas.

  • You may be required to work a shift system or additional hours for high load periods within the business.

What you'll bring

  • Accredited aerospace engineering qualification.

  • Relevant commercial aircraft apprenticeship or military equivalent would be an advantage.

  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in aircraft production, maintenance or overhaul.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Will have completed a recognised aircraft engineering apprenticeship in a commercial or military environment or similar qualification in aircraft systems.

  • Good working knowledge of High Voltage electrical systems, wiring harness build techniques including crimping and soldering

  • Very good attention to detail and can operate to challenging deadlines without compromising standards or quality.

  • Good working knowledge of aircraft documentation, maintenance manuals and engineering drawings.

  • A flexible and proactive attitude to carrying out responsibilities and always willing to lend a hand where needed throughout the business and across different teams.

  • Will apply previous experience, skills & knowledge to maintain Health, Safety and Environmental considerations and suggest improvements to procedures wherever possible.

  • Good working experience of IT systems including electronic work card systems and Microsoft packages

  • Should have good interpersonal communication skills, willing to engage with different disciplines, teams and individuals to carry out duties within our growing team.
