About the Role

We are seeking an WHS Officer to join our Workplace Health & Safety team focusing on supporting laboratory, field, office and remote work. Reporting to the Global WHS Manager, you will ensure our operations uphold Loam’s commitment to safety as well as adhere to requirements under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. In this role, you will be entrusted with executing the global WHS strategy throughout Loam’s Australian operations.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the implementation, training and recordkeeping for requirements under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 for Loam’s Australian operations
  • Maintenance of risk register and frequent reporting through to global and leadership structures 
  • Serve as regional subject matter expert in WHS matters, leading risk assessments, emergency coordination, incident investigations & prevention efforts, and supporting the workplace injury return to work program
  • Drive policy and procedure development, review and implementation at a national level
  • Lead workplace health & safety committees, WHS representative consultations and initiatives 
  • Develop team-based resources including SOPs, checklists, toolbox talk scripts, briefings and other related materials 
  • Design and implement comprehensive WHS training programs including facilitating inductions, training sessions, coordinating external training and delivering computer based training
  • Drive a strong culture of person-centred safety throughout the company by engaging with our diverse global team of employees, company leaders, and external partners
  • Coordinate the regional emergency management team’s efforts
  • Be responsible for contractor onboarding at Loam sites and partner sites, ensuring inductions and training is appropriately delivered 
  • Administer site waste management programs in accordance with state and local requirements

Requirements

    • Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
    • Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS Act 201; Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety or working towards preferred
    • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, written & oral communication skills
    • Experience in both agricultural and laboratory settings preferred
    • Ability to work in a dynamic environment including in office, laboratory and agricultural settings
    • A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems 
    • Valid Driver's Licence
