Our device captures at least 80% of a semi-truck’s carbon emissions directly from the tailpipe. We sell the CO2 to end-users who can store it away for a long time. We split that revenue with our customers, so the device pays for itself in just a couple years.

Remora is hiring a VP of Engineering who will build and manage teams responsible for every aspect of hardware and software engineering at Remora. The VP of Engineering will work closely with Remora’s CTO to shape the company’s technical strategy and set and execute on a roadmap for how to get there, all while helping to tackle the defining challenge of our time.

We’re a 50-person climate tech startup based in Detroit, MI. We build a device that captures a semi-truck’s carbon emissions directly from the tailpipe. We sell the CO2 to end-users, and split that revenue with our customers, so our device pays for itself in just a couple years. 

We’re piloting our technology with some of the largest companies in the world, including three of the Fortune 10, and we’ve raised multiple rounds of funding from leading investors like Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, and First Round Capital.

This role is entirely focused on the next phase of Remora: scaling! The VP of Engineering will be responsible for developing and managing the processes for scaling our device, as well as managing the people and planning the new roles required to scale. They will work closely with Remora’s CTO, allowing our CTO to focus on technology milestones and new development while the VP of Engineering plans how to scale working technology.

Responsibilities:
Planning the organization structure required to scale, and hiring engineers and managers as needed for scaling
Mentoring and growing direct reports and other members of the engineering team, including regular 1:1s and performance reviews with direct reports
Managing spending decisions around key tools and technologies
Managing key supplier relationships for long term strategic goals
Reporting to the CTO and the broader Leadership team on successes and challenges for the engineering organization
Working closely with other members of the Leadership team to develop timelines for product and manufacturing goals
Allocating team resources and tasks to accomplish key objectives on time
Building a flexible, fast-moving, inclusive, and equitable engineering culture with strong communication, ownership, and teamwork
Requirements:
10+ years of relevant work experience, including experience as a VP of Engineering
4+ years of engineering management experience with a team of 15+ people
Experience with scaling and iterating on hardware from the first few units to thousands of units, ideally at a venture-backed, fast-growth startup
Experience with engineering for manufacturing, serviceability, and productization
Experience developing a culture of consistently shipping product on schedule
Accurately performs self evaluation, listens to others and constantly improves oneself
Capable of motivating and organizing people for short term goals, while able to communicate and plan for long-term goals
Demonstrated leadership and engineering project management skills
Ability to build and manage a large team as the company grows
Creative, outside-the-box thinker with lots of new ideas
