Your role and your team:

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager - Batteries & Thermal Systems. The Mechanical Engineering Team is responsible for designing and developing the structural components of our aircraft across the entire life cycle - from concept through detailed design, testing and serial production.

From parts to systems development, you'll play a key role in bringing our innovative aircraft to life.

As Thermal Systems Engineer - Environmental Control System you will be part of an interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) responsible for the development of Thermal Management solutions for our Lilium Jet from prototype until serial production. You will focus on systems engineering from requirements work via systems design and supplier management up to certification.

Your Day to Day:

  • Drive the design of the Environmental Control System in accordance with ARP 4754A
  • Drive the qualification of the Environmental Control System and support certification on aircraft level
  • Drive the design of the Thermal Management solutions on system level
  • Write, validate, and verify system requirements in accordance with ARP 4754A
  • Pragmatic evaluation of thermal management concepts with idealization of physical effects and first principles reasoning
  • Optimization of thermal management concepts
  • Integration of the thermal management concepts into the Environmental Control System of the aircraft
  • Specify thermal margins as well as operation procedures
  • Manage suppliers
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing, integration, and test processes and procedures
  • Constantly learn new things – and share them with your team members
  • Work on any ad hoc related projects or tasks

Your Profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle Engineering (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the aerospace industry is required
  • Expert knowledge of thermal management, Environmental Control systems, and related design principles is required
  • Expert knowledge of thermal calculations is required
  • Good understanding of SAE-ARP4754 is beneficial
  • Good knowledge of a CAD system is beneficial (Siemens NX is preferred)
  • Good knowledge of ISO GPS (alternatively ASME GD&T) and overall good drafting skills are beneficial
  • Advanced knowledge with PDM/PLM systems (Teamcenter or equivalent) is beneficial
  • Excellent understanding of general design principles and technical correlations is required
  • Strong motivation to help build structures and processes is required
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
