As a Thermal Systems Engineer in the Advanced Engineering organization, you will shape the thermal system design for the future of electric vehicles. You will report directly to the Director of Advanced Engineering, and work to architect, design, and test next generation thermal systems to support the future of Lucid.
 
This role is open to all levels of experience. Your exact job level (Engineer, Sr. Engineer, Tech Specialist, etc.) will be defined by the experience and technical ability you have. However, this role and team will be a mixture of different experience levels all working together to make groundbreaking products with amazing innovation.

The Role:

  • Engage with cross-functional teams to deeply understand and define the thermal requirements across the entire vehicle
  • Partner with the broader thermal team to carry over best practices
  • Define limiting system cases and performance requirements, and architect, model, and evaluate candidate systems
  • Perform CFD and thermal analysis at the component level to evaluate new components and technologies
  • Develop and enhance new thermal management technologies to enhance vehicle capability and customer experience
  • Develop experimental studies to characterize performance and support test activities
  • Provide expertise to neighboring teams to enhance module-level thermal performance
  • Manage multiple complex projects in a demanding environment
  • Communicate effectively to leadership
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering high-impact programs
  • Exceptional understanding of engineering principles and ability to apply that knowledge to quickly establish feasibility and move projects along
  • Proficiency in CAD packages to create 3D models for CFD
  • Good data analysis, visualization, and presentation skills
  • Experience with thermal testing and instrumentation
  • A strong desire to create state-of-the-art engineering products as an integral part of a capable team
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge of relevant systems (HVAC systems, heat exchangers, compressors, blowers, valves filters)
  • Possess a creative/inventor mind to help identify new and innovative ideas to support thermal requirements
  • Ability to work in an early and rapidly evolving design environment with significant ambiguity and frequent change
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% if needed
  • Advantageous:

  • Experience mentoring less experienced engineers and organizing larger bodies of work
  • Knowledge of state of the art in EV thermal systems
  • Familiarity with thermal characteristics of EV-relevant components, including batteries, inverters, and motors
  • Experience working in very early vehicle design and development
