About the company:

Muon Space is ushering in a revolution in our ability to understand, predict and model a changing planet through large scale networks of sensors in space.

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager (TPM) to drive cross-functional planning and execution for our Ground Software programs. In this role, you will work closely with engineering leaders across software, hardware, science, and product to coordinate efforts from early concept through delivery to (literal!) launch. You will develop schedules and milestones, uncover gaps, flag risks, support resource planning, and ensure clear communication across stakeholders.

As a TPM, you’ll help teams stay aligned, unblock issues quickly, and deliver critical software capabilities that power Muon’s mission. You will provide the structure and process discipline required to scale our development efforts, while enabling teams to make fast, high-quality decisions in a complex, interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Program Planning & Roadmapping: Define objectives, scope, milestones, and success criteria in collaboration with engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Scheduling & Execution Management: Build and maintain project timelines, track dependencies, monitor progress, and adjust plans as priorities shift.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify risks early, coordinate mitigation plans, surface blockers, and drive timely resolution.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Facilitate collaboration across software, hardware, science, and product teams, ensuring aligned deliverables and clear handoffs.
  • Communication & Reporting: Provide concise, actionable updates to stakeholders and leadership on progress, changes, risks, and decisions.
  • Process & Continuous Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in workflows, propose improvements, and help implement better practices and tools.
  • Resource & Capacity Planning: Assist in forecasting resource needs, tracking capacity, and supporting prioritization and staffing decisions.
  • Release Planning & Readiness: Coordinate software releases, track readiness criteria, and communicate expectations to impacted teams.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a software engineer or in a similar technical role.
  • 3+ years of experience managing or coordinating software development projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and optimize software project management processes.
  • Strong technical background with knowledge of software development methods, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading cross-functional planning, scheduling, and risk management across multiple teams.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a bias toward clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Excited to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving priorities.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Experience in aerospace, robotics, logistics, or other domains with real-time high-reliability software development requirements.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, architecture proposals, or requirements specifications.
  • Comfort with Jira, Confluence and other productivity tools.
  • Exposure to OKR or goal-setting frameworks, and alignment of program priorities with company objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in distributed team environments.

Salary

The salary range for this role is $164,000 - $180,000 plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
