As we develop a fully integrated experience in our R1 and future vehicle lines, we need engineers to help redefine the next generation of features that build upon and integrate into our in-vehicle navigation and mapping systems. This role will be focused on building new user experiences and navigation services that help our customers plan adventures and explore the world, taking their vehicles to places beyond where they thought possible.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop Rivian Navigation and Infotainment applications on Android OS
- Create services and middleware for Rivian’s in-vehicle infotainment system, which links drivers and passengers to their vehicle and the outside world
- Lead feature development and technical delivery on key initiatives
- Design/Improve application architecture to meet product and technology goals
- Work closely with stakeholders and other internal and external teams (UX/UI designers, HMI developers, Platform and Mobile teams, etc) to create a modern in-vehicle experience
- Analysis of requirements, the architecture, design, development, code review, quality assurance and deployment of the entire software engineering life cycle
- Actively coach, support, and provide meaningful and relevant feedback to engineers
- Stay up to date with system changes and keep teams informed
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements
- Test the in-vehicle experience in Rivian prototype vehicles
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or the equivalent in experience
- 7+ years of work experience in Android engineering
- Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, and C++
- Proficiency in using Android, Android Jetpack APIs, including knowledge of Android NDK and JNI
- Knowledge of modern Android design principles and application interface guidelines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including working in a dynamic team and communicating ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Development experience with navigation, mapping, routing, and location-based features and/or experience in automotive/consumer electronics is strongly preferred
