We seek interns who demonstrate strong academic performance, engagement beyond the classroom, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in Zoox’s mission.
As a System Engineering Intern
Interns in this pipeline may be considered for opportunities across a range of teams within the following teams:
Verification & Validation: Support the verification and validation of critical hardware modules through a multi-stage testing process from bench-level testing to full vehicle and product integration, including triaging and root-cause analysis of test results.
Powertrain Engineering: Collaborate closely with senior engineers and suppliers to develop and validate battery control algorithms, create high-fidelity cell models, and conduct laboratory testing to optimize battery performance, safety, and longevity.
System Integration: Perform thermal modeling to estimate key temperatures to improve safety and reduce hardware costs by enabling more accurate cabin safety monitoring and a lower sensor count.
Compensation:
The monthly salary range for this position is $6,500 to $9,500. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level of education. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, and a housing stipend (relocation assistance will be offered based on eligibility).
Program Requirements:
Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or other advanced degree in a relevant engineering field.Plan to return to school after completing the internship.Maintain good academic standing.Available to commit to either a 12-week summer internship (May or June 2026 start) At least one prior industry internship, co-op, or relevant project experience.Willing and able to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship.Interns may not use proprietary Zoox information in university theses, publications, or share it outside of Zoox.Role Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering Experience writing test cases and test reports for feature or vehicle requirements.Foundational understanding of MATLAB/Simulink for control system design and simulationFamiliarity with CAN networks and vehicle system architectureProficiency in data analysis and visualization using Python, MATLAB, or similar toolsBonus Qualifications:
Previous co-op or internship in Robotics, battery systems, power electronics, or Automotive companies.Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamicsUnderstanding of battery electrochemistry, cell dynamics, and thermal behavior
