Our food chain is broken - the system that can barely feed 7 billion people will not feed 10 billion we’re expected to reach by 2050. And while it's hard to imagine that things could be different, they have to be.

At Better Origin, our mission is to fix the broken food chain. We are inspired by nature and how it deals with waste, with nutrients always flowing in a circular system.

That is exactly what happens inside the Better Origin X1 container, where food waste is fed to insects, which then become a carbon negative source of protein for animal feed. This enables us to not only reduce food waste and emissions, but also support a local-first supply chain.

Requirements

As our Policy Advisor you'll be responsible for leading holistic policy-development, Government (lobbying) and carbon credit efforts with relevant stakeholders.

Your role:

• Helping improve the legislative / regulatory framework for insect bioconversion in the UK
• Scoping new jurisdictions globally, including Europe and a focus on the US
• Supporting lobbying efforts by the broader insect industry in UK, Europe (IPIFF) and other geographies
• Pursuing creation of backed carbon credit schemes from insect bioconversions
• Scoping existing and upcoming Government support for deploying circular innovations and agricultural infrastructure (e.g. non-academic grants and subsidies)
• Co-ordinating company efforts, domestically and abroad

What we're looking for:

• Experience in a relevant Policy / Regulatory / Compliance role, involving public speaking and legalese skills
• Charismatic, confident speaker, capable of communicating to multiple groups - both formally and informally
• Proactive and results-driven, willing to tackle unchartered territories and figure things out for the first time
• Proven record of scheduling & keeping structured strategies / schedules - bringing stakeholders across the spectrum to a consensus
• Passionate about sustainability and driven by positive change - what you will do has the potential to change things significantly for the better
• Highly proficient in English language (written & verbal)
