The opportunity

As a member of our Reliability team you will report to the Manager of Safety, Reliability, and Maintainability, and will help define and apply the reliability standards for our first certified aircraft. You will help us overcome the challenge of providing airline-like levels of reliability while offering urban air transportation at a price accessible to all, setting the bar for the entire nascent advanced air mobility industry.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to design high-reliability, safety-critical systems for an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft
  • Contribute to the reliability processes and work methods
  • Participate in the definition of reliability requirements
  • Perform analysis such as reliability predictions, reduced BOM analysis, Weibull analysis, FMEAs, FMESs, etc. to support item and component failure rate / MTBF / MTBUR substantiation
  • Support failure / reliability testing and derived requirements (MTBF / MTBUR / Dispatch Interruption Rates (DIR))
  • Create and maintain a Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) process & database
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain and substantiate reliability data
  • Support System-Level Safety Analysis (FHAs, FTAs, PSSAs, SSAs) per SAE ARP4671
  • Support MMEL per SAE ARP4671

What you need

  • 8+ years experience as Reliability Engineer
  • BS, MS, or PhD in engineering or a related technical degree
  • Experience with multiple types of systems commonly used on civil aircraft
  • Experience performing multiple types of reliability analyses commonly used in civil aviation
  • Experience creating, validating, and verifying reliability requirements
  • Experience being personally accountable for one or more reliability activities on a civil aircraft certification program
  • Experience with reliability substantiation (by analysis and test)
  • Knowledge of civil aviation standards, practices, and regulations
  • Collaborative mindset
  • Excellent technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Passion for learning and problem solving

 

Bonus qualifications

  • Knowledgeable on SAE ARP4754A
  • Experience with HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing), ESS (Environmental Stress Screening), or HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening)
  • Experience working on type certification of an aircraft from start to finish under 14 CFR Part 23/27 or equivalent regulations (14 CFR Part 25/29)
  • Prior experience on cert projects with significant software and complex hardware elements (in particular with critical Development Assurance Level (DAL) systems); knowledgeable on RTCA DO-178C and DO-254

For this position we are targeting a base pay between $164,000 - $190,000.  Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
