Responsible for assisting engineers with laboratory test programs (including test specimen preparation, adhesive strength tests, bolted joint torque tests, tensile tests, etc.).

The Role:

  • Work with engineers, facilities teams, and suppliers to install and maintain all pieces of test equipment, machinery, and accessories. 
  • Proactively check laboratory inventory, order consumables, calibrate equipment, and ship/receive test specimen as required.
  • Maintain and improve lab hygiene by hosting quarterly 5S organization events and daily housekeeping.
  • Use in-house machine shop equipment to fabricate parts into required test coupon dimensions.
  • Comply with all corporate and OSHA workplace safety practices and regulations, including labeling and storage requirements for metals and chemicals as well as proper use of PPE in the workplace.
  • Qualifications:

  • Mechanically inclined individual that enjoys performing and optimizing repetitive tasks: sample prep, testing, housekeeping, etc.
  • An independent worker with a “can-do” attitude and ability to regularly lift more than 50 lbs., if needed. 
  • Detail oriented personality with strong documentation and reporting skills including MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience of safe operation of DC power tools, pneumatic/hydraulic equipment, high voltage equipment, and rotating machinery.
  • Great communication skills for relaying data (both verbal and written). 
  • Impeccable organization and clean work environment habits. 
  • Education:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent education a must
  • Associates degree in STEM field preferred
  • Other technical or vocational schools or certification with automotive focus a bonus
  • Preferred:

  • 2+ years of automotive hands-on technician experience  
  • Experience with electric vehicles and/or automotive products a plus.
  • Experience preparing and testing structural adhesive bonded joints.
  • Experience with convection ovens and furnaces, mechanical testing (tensile, compressive, 3-point flexural testing), salt spray test chamber, metallurgical saws/polishers, self-pierce riveting, welding and flow form screwing.
