The Battery Cell Engineering Team is currently seeking candidates to serve as the leader of our emerging products division. This role will be highly cross-functional in nature, interfacing with the Battery and Powertrain Systems Engineering teams in order to help channel the vision from our leadership into design options for new products. A successful candidate will have an established track record of technical leadership in the field of Li-ion battery cells, experience managing senior engineering talent, and a passion for establishing roadmaps that push our suppliers towards best-in-class cells.

The Role:

  • Leader: Organize and motivate a team of engineers to innovate and deliver increasingly better cell performance on schedule for series production vehicles.  
  • Product Designer: A passion for operating in under-constrained design spaces and driving technical specification convergence where there once was none. Work side-by-side with our Battery and Powertrain Systems Engineering teams to tease out engineering trade spaces and targets. 
  • Road-mapper: Own technical roadmap exchanges with cell suppliers. Provide Lucid’s aspirational cell needs and translate leading suppliers’ roadmaps for Executive leadership within Lucid. 
  • Decision Driver: Oversee the negotiations, screening, and selection recommendation of which cells & supply agreements to pursue for downstream development and integration teams. 
  • Ambassador: Experience working with and connections to top tier cell suppliers. Some level of domestic and international travel required (~10%).
  • Qualifications:

  • 7+ years designing, testing, and/or shipping battery systems. 
  • 5+ years working on or managing cell-specific workstreams.
  • Knowledge of latest advances in battery cell chemistries and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience managing and growing battery cell engineers.
  • Experience building cell sample testing and screening programs.
  • Proficient in technical project management tools and techniques. 
  • Experience working on Electric Vehicle systems is a plus. 
  • Education:

  • Masters degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences Required.
