Archer is an aerospace company building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft focused on improving mobility in cities. The company's mission is to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. Archer is designing, manufacturing, and operating a fully electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150mph while producing minimal noise. Archer's team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.
Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.
What you’ll do:
- Collaborate and work closely with the cross-functional teams to ensure the power electronics product design meets the system and module requirements, including functions, performance, safety and reliability
- Lead the hardware and software integration and development tests for the high performance aerospace power electronics (DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC) products
- Responsible to specify, design, and perform testing of electrical aspects of the module and boards implemented in power electronics converters targeted for aerospace applications
- Clearly define test plans and procedures, perform test cases and generate reports for design verification and system integration of the converter module / boards, and support other tests including end-of-line, environmental / electrical stress and safety-of-flight
- Lead tester designs from conception into production while working with a multidisciplinary team. Start to finish ownership of tester hardware to characterize / validate features, functions and performance of complex high voltage converters – from specification to design, build or manufacturing, and operation
- Create development test cases for the module and boards
- Tester design, covering both hardware and software needs
- Test station build, bring-up, troubleshoot, operation and maintenance
- Test station data consolidation, visualization, review and analysis
- Conduct failure analysis of the module / boards to understand the root cause and lead the cross-functional team effort to identify the resolutions
- Support flight test data review and analysis for power converter products
- Drive continuous design and performance improvement of power electronics products, and provide constructive and accurate feedbacks to product design owners
What you need:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years or MS with 3+ years of experience in related fields
- Sound knowledge and hands-on experience in design, integration and testing of high voltage power electronics converters, mixed signal boards, and power / gate drive boards
- In-depth understanding of power electronics components and modules, including power semiconductors, gate drivers, magnetic components (transformers, inductors), passive components, connectors, device characterization, converter topologies (DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC), mechanical packaging, thermal management, modulation techniques, and control methods
- Experience flowing down system and module requirements to board / circuit level requirements
- Experience converting requirements and schematics into test plans with pass / fail criteria
- Familiarity with automated test station hardware and software tools (e.g. NI, Labview)
- Master of all types of lab instruments: power supplies, oscilloscope, signal generators, network analyzer, electronic loads, CAN tools, etc.
- Experience performing the design and build of test stations
- Experience managing vendors that are performing the design and build of test stations
- Experience performing power electronics board and module bring-up and design verification test
- Experience on root cause analysis of power converter module / board failures
- Exceptional analytical problem solving skills for complex hardware / software and attention to details
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
Bonus Qualifications:
- Hands on experience with DO-160G testing
- Embedded firmware development experience
- Experience with Python, C, C++, Matlab
- Experience in using circuit simulation software, schematic capture, and PCB layout software (e.g. Spice, Altium Designer)
- Passion for aviation and eVTOLs
