We are currently seeking a Sr. Engineer – Cell Safety in the Battery Safety Team. This position requires an experienced professional with deep understanding of Li-ion cell chemistry and abuse testing. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches work

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
· California (Bay Area) - $115,000 - $165,000

The Role
Synthesize standards and regulatory requirements for cell safety applicable in different key markets for both automotive and stationary ESS applications.Own and develop the Lithium-ion cell abuse test validation plan for BOL and EOL cells.Track cell changes during prototype and serial life phases to validate that the current cell design maintain the appropriate safety level.Support the battery abuse test team in the build-up of designs of experiments to acquire high-quality data that will later be used by the Safety, Systems, Design, BMS, Quality, Manufacturing, Modeling and Characterization Teams.Analyze abuse tests data and effectively communicate the extracted cell performance parameters (hazard level, thermal runaway temperature/dynamics/energetics, heat release rate, etc.).Work closely with the multiple cross-functional teams and cell suppliers.Monitor the planning of cell testing, data acquisition, and database organization to ensure that the cell validations are delivered in a qualitative and timely manner with respect to project milestones.Involved with test equipment and plan future expansion of testing capabilities together with the abuse test team.Contribute to creating a documentation system for specifications and project test results.Able to perform domestic and international travel to supervise or contribute to abuse testing, expert committee, or field investigation together with a supplier.Qualifications
3+ years of experience with cell safety and abuse testing – execution or supervision.Experience in tracking and reviewing tests.Able to make clear, detailed, and synthetic analysis of standards, regulations, and test reports.High level of mathematical and data analysis capabilities.Excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude.Comfortable with initiating and taking ownership of projects.Flexibility to work in a fast-paced startup environment with frequent prioritization adjustments.Preferred
Experience with Atlassian, Jira and Confluence.Knowledge of abuse test standards and regulations: UN 38.3, GB 38031, GB/T 31485, UL 2580, UL 9540, UL 1973, IEC 62660, IEC 62133, SAE J2929, SAE J2464.Capable of performing cell teardowns and postmortem analysis including in a glove box.A history of working independently with limited oversight or input once a base understanding has been established.An ability to mitigate unforeseen problems creatively and effectively.Experience working with high-voltage, high current systems (power supplies, batteries, etc.).Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Chemistry, and other related fields.
