Bear Flag Robotics is a part of the Automation and Autonomy group at John Deere. Acquired in August 2021, Bear Flag Robotics has a growing portfolio of projects in the autonomy space and is looking for a Perception Lead to join our team.

This will be a hybrid role and will require you to be in our Santa Clara office at least one day per week.

Position Responsibilities:
Lead the design, development, validation, and deployment of perception systems for autonomous tractors. Define the software and hardware architecture of the perception system, and work with partner teams on critical interfaces. Collaborate with teams across John Deere to integrate new and existing solutions.Manage a growing Perception team and own the long-term Perception roadmap and strategy.Work with engineering and product stakeholders to identify and meet safety and performance requirements. Coordinate with engineering operations on data collection, testing, and field validation.Position Requirements:
8+ years of relevant professional experience Led technical projects involving small- to medium-sized teams.Prior management experience is preferred but not required.Highly experienced in algorithmic development for perception stacks (LIDAR, Camera, etc.). Direct experience with sensors is preferred.Deployed perception stacks to robots, autonomous vehicles, or other real-time systemsExperience with deep learning development and deployment in a production environmentFamiliarity with ML operations and data curation best practicesStrong software development skills in C++ and PythonKnowledgeable in software engineering best practices and tools Knowledgeable in ROS/ROS 2 or similar robotics middlewareM.S. / PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering or similar field If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align completely with the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
