Social Performance Lead, KoBold Zambia 

About the Company

Zambold Exploration is a Zambian-led company exploring for the ore deposits that will become the next generation of new mines in Zambia.

 

Zambold is the Zambian affiliate of KoBold Metals, a U.S.-based company exploring around the world for battery metals using proprietary AI to guide exploration decisions. Our business is discovering, defining, expanding, and developing mineral resources, and our objective is to achieve a step-change improvement in exploration success resulting in more tier 1 resources discovered faster, with fewer failures, and with far less exploration capital.

Zambold is building a rapidly growing team of Zambian geologists, operators, and executives to identify, acquire, explore, and develop exploration opportunities and mineral resources drawing upon KoBold’s technology and the expertise of colleagues worldwide.

 

About the Position

The Social Performance Lead will drive KoBold Zambia’s Social Performance work, its integration across the business and ensure the company fulfills its commitments, interactions and activities as they relate to local communities. 

The Social Performance Lead will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensures management plans are aligned with International Standards (IFC) 
  • Develops and supports the implementation of strategic approaches to achieving social acceptance during exploration and provides practical advice to site-level teams
  • Contributes to the development of site and business level social strategies and advances work in the context of that strategic direction.
  • Coordinates stakeholder engagement planning at the national and regional level
  • Develops appropriate procedures and guidelines for social management 
  • Ensures systems are in place to supervise and manage local content, complaints, commitments, engagements and donations
  • Identifies potential strategic partnerships for community development initiatives 
  • Builds and maintains a network of social performance practitioners in country 
  • Coordinates cross-functionally to bring social performance perspectives to land access matters, exploration strategies and work plans 
  • Proactively identifies people, process, business and system factors that have the potential to create negative impacts and risks.
  • Analyzes discipline-wide data, processes and systems to identify meaningful trends. Drives the effective use of databases, business processes and reporting systems and proactively suggests improvements in reporting metrics.

The Social Performance Lead will be working in close collaboration with the Mingomba site Community Relations Team and in some cases advising and overseeing specific activities conducted by this team.

In addition, he candidate should have:

  • 5+ years of land and/or community engagement experience in large scale infrastructure projects, management of natural resources or other relevant industrial 
  • Experience developing and implementing social management systems 
  • Experience working with regulatory, local and traditional authorities

A great candidate will also have one or more of:

  • Experience in the mining industry, ideally metals exploration
