Flavor Research Associate

About this role:

As a Flavor Research Associate, you will be an integral part of the Climax Foods team, combining human sensory perception with data analysis to inform research and product development. You will help us with organizing and designing sensory panels, collecting data, and conducting some analysis. Work is carried out in a highly collaborative environment across multiple interdisciplinary teams (Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology, Data Science, Food Science, and Product Development). Your contributions will enable us to increase data generation and accelerate our discovery for tastier plant-based products while informing our business decisions.

Education and Experience:

BSc in Chemistry, Food Science or a related discipline with 2-4+ years of industry experience, or, MS in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related discipline with 2-3+ years of industry experience
Experience recruiting, coordinating, and leading descriptive or consumer sensory panels with trained or untrained panelists
Ability to work within RedJade or similar sensory software programs
Experience with biology/chemistry lab techniques and equipment (i.e. pH meters, dilutions, buffer preparation) and general chemical safety
Understanding of sensory analysis and basic principles related to consumer science research
Strong analytical skills including ability to enter, manipulate, and manage data in Excel or Google Sheets
Excellent attention to detail with proactive problem-solving skills
Effective planning, organization, and communication skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills even in an evolving, fast-paced environment
Experience with data analysis using Python/R is not required, but highly desirable
Some knowledge of sensory testing methodologies highly desirable

Responsibilities

Assist in preparation, organization, and execution of both internal and external sensory panels
Prepare chemical sample standards and taste solutions as needed for chemical analysis or sensory testing
Work with data scientists and food scientists to design consumer research studies
Collaboratively work within and across groups to contribute to high cross-functional team efforts
Maintain an interest in sensory, flavor science research, and accompanying advanced analytical methods (GC-MS, IC-MS, etc.)
Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture
