Sensor Fusion Engineer, Self-Driving

Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.&nbsp;</p></div><p><strong>Role Summary</strong></p> <div> <p>As a Sensor Fusion Engineer at Rivian, you will be part of a team responsible for creating real-time virtual representations of the local environment around the vehicle that includes objects, obstacles, lanes, and drivable space.&nbsp; The team uses raw and processed measurements from sensors on the existing production vehicles in addition to evaluating new sensors and developing algorithms for future vehicle programs.&nbsp; Experience fusing multiple types of sensors in early and late fusion architectures is desired. For late sensor fusion, familiarity with the full stack including clustering, association, tracking, classification, likelihood, and track management is desired.&nbsp; The ideal candidate would be up to date on the latest advances in sensor fusion and multi-object tracking research.</p> </div> <p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Implement and evaluate algorithm proof of concepts to support new features</li> <li>Deploy algorithms for approved features to the production embedded platform</li> <li>Define KPIs and report metrics to verify algorithms meet performance requirements and safety goals</li> <li>Root cause and resolve issues</li> <li>Support functional safety certification</li> <li>Evaluate, and support sourcing efforts for sensors on future vehicle programs</li> <li>Follow Agile processes for SW development</li> <li>Follow processes to meet ISO26262 and SOTIF requirements</li> <li>Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders in systems, controls, simulation, embedded, hardware, and test validation teams</li> </ul> <div><strong>Qualifications</strong></div> <div> <ul> <li>MS. or Ph.D. in Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics or a related field</li> <li>2+ years of experience in Sensor Fusion, Perception, and/or Estimation Theory</li> <li>4+ years of experience for Senior level</li> <li>Experience in one or more of the following areas: <ul> <li>Multi-Hypothesis or Multi-Object Tracking</li> <li>Stochastic Estimation, Bayesian Estimation, EKF and/or Particle Filters</li> <li>Clustering Algorithms</li> <li>Kinematics and Vehicle Motion modeling</li> <li>LSTM or other temporal ML architectures</li> <li>Asynchronous Real-time Systems</li> </ul> </li> <li>C/C++ programming experience</li> <li>Hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge of radars, LiDARs, cameras, and ultrasonics</li> <li>Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment</li> <li>Team player with great communication skills</li> <li>Passionately motivated to take ideas from R&amp;D to production</li> </ul> </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div><strong>Preferred Skills</strong></div> <div> <ul> <li>Prototyping real-time applications</li> <li>Software development for safety critical systems (ISO 26262)</li> <li>Knowledge of verification processes: EV/DV, unit tests, code coverage and static code analysis, SIL/HIL, regression testing</li> <li>ROS, DDS, or similar middleware</li> <li>Linux/QNX</li> <li>Matlab/Python</li> <li>Embedded SW development and optimization</li> </ul> </div><div class="content-conclusion"><h4>Equal Opportunity</h4> <p>Rivian is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
