About the company:
As a member of Heirloom’s software team you will build, operate, and maintain the software systems needed to support effective carbon removal at scale. The software team’s work spans orchestrating and controlling our accelerated looping process, advancing research to unlock the next generation of Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, and establishing reliable and auditable operations through the application of digital tooling. You will contribute to building sustainable and maintainable systems that will serve the company for years to come. In doing so, your work would be directly moving the needle on Heirloom’s core technology to enable a low-cost, scalable, and reliable design to meet our goal of removing 1 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
In this role you will apply the principles of automation, integration, and continuous improvement to ensure that our software systems generate and apply the insights needed to learn and scale efficiently. You will directly contribute to the design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, and maintenance of software aimed at supporting the company’s R&D activities, as well as that destined for both pilot and commercial DAC facilities. You will be presented with a myriad of technical problems and ample opportunity to keep pace with the evolving set of tools employed by the software discipline. You will work alongside a team of world-class software engineers, product managers, and systems engineers committed to delivering high-quality solutions in service of a more liveable future for all.
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in computer science, engineering, or related discipline.
Minimum 6-8 years of experience in software engineering.
Experience developing software for hardware and/or industrial applications.
Experience in design, testing, debugging, monitoring, and production deployment.
Proficiency in the application and configuration of messaging systems (e.g., NATS, MQTT, Apache Kafka, etc).
Knowledge of relational databases and data models; experience with SQL as a tool for structuring persistence.
Proficiency in Golang, Linux/Unix platforms, and Git.
Familiarity with test-driven development.
Ability to operate both in the realms of high-level architectural design and low-level technical implementation.
Avid learner, curious, embracing a growth mindset.
Great collaborator, constantly pushing toward alignment.
Commitment to building and maintaining a workplace environment that prizes engagement, accountability, and respect.

Experience in designing distributed and micro-service architectures.
