Position Title: Senior Project Accountant

Reports To: Director, Project Accounting

Location: Westlake Village, CA or REMOTE (USA) with a couple of trips each year

About the role

We are seeking a Project Accountant or Senior Project Accountant to provide financial and business analysis over the building of our energy storage solutions. You will work on operations over the projects’ life cycle from set up through project’s close out. Additionally, you will evaluate project performance and provide analysis to project managers, finance department colleagues, and additional key stakeholders. The ideal candidate should have project accounting experience in the (renewable) energy and/or construction sectors as well as experience with NetSuite.

What you will do

Responsible for lifecycle project accounting from creating project accounts in NetSuite, to tracking projects and project budget, validating invoicing, and up to project close-out.

Manage each projects’ payables and receivable accounts up to budgets expectations.

Provide insightful reports with the financial performance and building status of each project.

Confirm estimates to complete the projects and their impact on revenue recognition.

Perform variance analysis of monthly actuals vs as-sold vs latest forecast for Revenue, COGS, EBITDA, prepare margin waterfall analysis for key projects.

Responsible for the proper billing as per projects schedule and cash flow forecasting.

Partner with the Project Manager and project team to establish the project budget, updating budgets, and making project accounting recommendations as needed when contract modifications or budget changes arise.

Spearhead strategic initiatives enabling the increase in project’s profits (focus on cost reduction).

Verify contract and change order characteristics for projects that are of a higher level of complexity, including reading and interpreting contract language, method of compensation, modifications, purchase orders, and subcontract/consultant terms.

Subcontract management and coordination with Contract Administrators. This includes evaluating subcontractor invoice submittals for accuracy, establishes and maintains purchase orders for subconsultants, and requests and follows up on subcontractor payment requests with Accounts Payable.

Provide Commercial feedback to PM and team members. Should be comfortable discussing topics such as (FX gain/losses, various project insurance requirements, lien waivers, L.Cs, Performance bond, Sales & Use tax, VAT).

What a qualified candidate should possess

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or equivalent required; CPA or MBA a plus.

5+ years in Project Accounting working on lump sum projects preferably in renewable energy.

Excel proficiency, strong analytical and technical accounting skills, and ability to work independently to solve problems and manages multiple projects.

Great teaming ability with an environmentally conscious attitude.

Experience in Oracle NetSuite modules is plus.

Comfort in fast-paced, rapid growth environments.

Experience in public companies is a plus.
