About the company:

Plenty is a new kind of farm for a new kind of world. We’re on a mission to bring healthy food to the world while protecting the environment. Our pesticide-free, non-GMO leafy greens taste fresh-picked from the garden because they were. We grow and deliver locally, cutting transportation miles and reducing emissions. Plenty’s indoor farms mean fresh produce is always in season.

We are a team of growers, plant scientists, engineers, artists, foodies and plant romantics working to improve the lives of plants, people, and the planet. We currently operate in South San Francisco, CA, and Laramie, WY. Our new Compton, CA site set to open in 2021 will be the world’s first, high-capacity indoor vertical farm.

Plenty believes food justice is social justice. Equal access to healthy, nutritious food is fundamental to a quality life. We build farms in communities that need better access to food and jobs. Plenty provides living-wage, year-round jobs along with flavorful, nutrient-rich food to the communities we serve. We use automation and robotics so machines do the backbreaking labor while people perform new kinds of skilled agricultural, science and high-tech jobs.

Now is the time to help Plenty achieve its mission to feed the world healthy food in a sustainable way. We are a start-up with expanding career growth opportunities.

We are actively seeking those who embody our core values: find a way, down to earth, & grow together. These values guide how we work together as teammates, approach innovation and engage with customers. Does this sound like you? Join the mission as we improve human and planetary health by increasing access to craveable fruits and vegetables.

About Plenty

We are on a mission to grow plenty of fresh food for everyone, everywhere.  We are building the world’s largest, most technologically advanced, indoor vertical farms.  Using a fraction of the land and water outdoor farms need, our farms are designed to secure our food future.

Our people and teams are how we make our mission possible. We are passionate about our contributions to Plenty, the communities around us and our planet, but never take ourselves too seriously. We’re down to earth, we grow together, and we always find a way.  Join us as we rewrite the rules of agriculture, and we’ll bet our berries you’ll be rewarded with innovative and collaborative teammates, a supportive environment, diverse career opportunities and meaningful work.

This will include but not be limited to management of Plenty’s technical product roadmap and development of the R&D (Research & Development) projects that enable it.

What you'll do

  • Project Scoping & Handoff: Collaborate with R&D teams (Plant Science, Engineering) to define initial project scopes, timelines, and resourcing requirements for all projects related to current Farm Development and future Innovation opportunities. Then work closely with the Technical Product Management team to hand off project charters for project execution and the Farm Assets team to help align design project timelines with overall farm design timelines.
  • Investment Justification: Develop and update business cases for R&D projects focused on Farm Development and Innovation
  • Techno-Economic Analysis: Conduct techno-economic analyses to identify the farm economic drivers with the highest R&D ROI. Communicate results and heuristics in a way that helps teams stay focused on what matters most.
  • Align Farm Product Roadmap with Subsystem Product Pipeline: Develop subsystem technology innovation pipeline and cross-functional operating model to manage promotion of products through pipeline stages. Manage the alignment of the Farm Product Roadmap with the technology innovation pipeline , working with teams to match up the timelines of newly identified (and not yet identified) development opportunities into existing farm deployment timelines.
  • Technical Transfer Between Crops: Identify and document degrees of hardware and process transferability between crops (e.g. greens and strawberries), to enable a fuller understanding of tech platform applications and business case for new crop application development

What you'll bring to the table

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering or Science Discipline
  • 7+ years of product development and management experience within a scientific space such as chemicals, materials, formulation, fermentation products, etc.
  • You thrive at delivering complex products cross functionally in a matrix organization environment
  • Experience generating executive-level communications for project approvals and/or progress updates/governance
  • Passion for distilling complex technical concepts into informative and digestible presentations to senior leadership and non-technical audiences
  • Experience conducting techno-economic analyses and presenting them in a digestible format to a wide range of audiences
