About the company:

Fluence is the leading global energy storage technology and services company, created and backed by Siemens and AES, two industry powerhouses and pioneers in energy storage. Fluence unites the scale, experience, breadth, and financial backing of the two most experienced icons in energy storage.

Our mission is to create a more sustainable future by transforming the way we power our world. Energy storage is critical to this transformation, yet today the market is fragmented and customers face the challenge of finding a trusted technology partner amidst conflicting technical claims, inexperienced vendors and installers, and new market entrants with limited power sector knowledge.

Fluence brings the proven technology solutions and services that overcome the commercial and regulatory barriers that stand in the way of modernizing our energy networks. We are the partner that can deliver at a global scale with the most experienced and knowledgeable team in the world.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Fluence deploys lithium-ion batteries in utility scale projects, typically inside metal enclosures.
The selected candidate will play a critical role in helping Fluence deliver the next generation of energy storage products for grid utility applications. Candidate will be primarily engaging in the ongoing development of Fluence’s energy storage products, focusing on setting up and executing Thermal and Cooling System design and calculations that will guide product design and safety decisions.
The ideal candidate will have a solid fundamental understanding of steady-state and transient thermal analysis techniques with experience in thermal management design for battery energy storage enclosures or converters for Grid/EV application, with a strong proficiency in liquid cooling system equipment selection and supplier qualifications.
Experience with cooling systems design, both air cooling and liquid cooling and familiarity with 3D CFD simulation using ANSYS, 1D thermal simulation using MATLAB, NFPA codes such as NFPA 68 and 69 are beneficial.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in fluid and thermal sciences
  • or Master’s degree with specialization in thermal and fluid sciences or equivalent and have 3+ years of experience in BESS enclosure design and engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge in 1D analytical calculation with emphasis on cooling system design using engineering fundamentals and cutting-edge tools such as ANSYS & MATLAB.
  • Experience in determining sizing and placement of cooling ducts, Heat Exchangers, fans, and HVAC units by simulating both internal and external flows against heat sources and electrical components.
  • Create component specification and standardize the best design practices. Also closely work with component suppliers/manufacturers to validate design and test requirements.
  • Thermal management design of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)/ Electronic enclosures.
  • Experience implementing heat transfer analysis through conjugate heat transfer (CHT) simulations.
  • Excellent English verbal and writing skills and works with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team player. Possesses sound business judgment.
  • Other qualifications:
